Sarah Navejar-Gomez, a longtime resident of Pasco, passed away on the afternoon of November 13, 2025, at Lourdes Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years of age.
Sarah was born in Edinburg, Texas on October 13, 1940, to Miguel and Cruz Navejar. In her youth, the Navejar family traveled to different states following seasonal work. Her family eventually settled in Outlook, Washington where she resided with her parents and ten siblings, until she married Simon Salinas Sr. They made their first home in Granger Washington. Sarah and Simon Sr. along with their five children moved to Yakima then Grandview. After their divorce, Sarah followed her children to the Tri Cities area. She eventually bought a home in Pasco where she resided for the last 16 years.
Sarah worked different jobs in her life. She worked picking fruit and vegetables in the orchards and fields of the lower Yakima valley. She also worked in canneries and dry cleaning as a seamstress and presser. She always said her skin was so nice because of the steam. Sarah enjoyed gardening and her pride and joy were her beautiful roses. She enjoyed cooking for her family as well (she was a wonderful cook). She was an avid Mariner’s fan and enjoyed watching them play baseball. But her passion was quilting and sewing. She was an expert quilter, at times her quilts took months to finish, especially because she hand quilted, she never used a machine to quilt. She enjoyed every aspect of quilting, from making her own patterns, picking out her materials, and then gifting them to her children.
Sarah is survived by three of her six children, Anita Barnard (Bill), Mary Rodriguez, and Martin Salinas (Emily). Her grandchildren, Melanie Salinas, David Rodriguez, Stephanie Rodriguez, Mike Salinas, Matthew Barnard, Amanda Lechuga, Martin M. Salinas, Justin Salinas, Zack Blotz, Heather Haigh, and Nathan Salinas. She has twenty-four great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Sarah was preceded in death by her son, Simon Salinas Jr., her daughter Lucinda Blotz, and her baby boy Peter Salinas. Her parents and several siblings. As well as her grandson John Barnard and great grandson Makijah Rodriguez.
In honor of her memory her memorial service will be held at Einan’s Funeral home in Richland Washington on November 20, 2025.
I love you grandma. You and I had a special bond since I can remember. I don’t remember a time you weren’t near by. You made my children feel safe and welcome. I will make sure you are remembered by my own grandchildren, and I know you will always be with me until we meet again,.
Sarah, you were always an excellent cook. Every meal was delicious. And as your son in law, you always treated me great. Thank you.
Rest easy Grandma. I will never forget the times I spent with you my mom, and my sister. I will never forget the countless meals you made for us, all made with love. And of course I will never forget your tamales. I can’t eat one anymore without comparing it to yours! I love you.
Hi Mom, well, although the world’s a bit dimmer today, I know that heaven is a bit brighter, with your beautiful smile. I will deeply miss you and your smile. Don’t worry about us; you left plenty of light for the rest of us to move on, but it will be tough, Mom. You definitely deserved the best when you were with us, and you deserve the best in the afterlife. you laid down a legacy that family is the ultimate purpose in life. your grandchildren and great-grandchildren will carry on this legacy. They will all be present today to honor you and the great family you created. Mom, you will be honored for your Passion, Love, and Respect, and also your special gifts in art (Quilts), cooking, and your competitive nature, which are all gifts you had, and I would like to see you acknowledge for your passion. Till we meet again, Mom, Love You Always and Forever!
My grandma was fierce in so many ways. She was there when I needed her more times than I can count and I’ll never forget that. We shared tears together, but tears of laughter too. She was the best trash talker, I learned from the best. I hope you can finally rest.
Go Mariners! The
Love you forever grandma.
Mom, I pray you a can finally rest. You were always going even till the end. You were always an early riser and enjoyed starting the day with your prayers then having pan dulce and coffee (with lots of sugar), after, you would watch the horoscope program on the Spanish channel. Once your morning routine was done, you’d “get to work” Which meant getting the sewing machine out and starting a project, whether working on a quilt, hemming pants for me or making outfits from patterns. It always made me smile to see you sewing, I could tell how happy you were. As time went on and your body and mind got weaker, you still kept going, like the energizer bunny. I just miss being with you, hanging out drinking canela tea, making tamales, watching baseball or running around doing errands. Say hello to my brothers and sissy, I know they , and your mom and dad were there to greet you. Be at peace mama, I love you ❤️
Mary, Mikey and family,
While we didn’t know Sarah, we believe that through the two of you and our grandchildren there is a significant connection. We pray that your sorrow is comforted by memories and God’s Grace. With our love, Sally and Jeff
Sarah always treated me like family. she fed me housed me and took care of my children. I will miss her always. we love you Sarah.
Grandma, you were an amazing woman of many talents. I miss your witty quips, and cooking. I hope you rest in peace. With love, your great granddaughter ❤️
My mom was a very family oriented person. Her parents and sisters meant a lot to her. When I would visit her she always asked if I had seen her parents and if I would to please make sure to tell them “Hi” for her and that she loved them. She would tell us many stories about her sisters and how they had so much fun going to the dances. I remember watching her dance with my kids and they enjoyed it so much. I worked along side of her in the fields, Delmomtes and dry cleaners. We spent a lot of time together and I will miss her terribly!
