Wayne Sant
Wayne H Sant passed away at the age of 90 on Nov 17, 2025 in Richland, WA.
Wayne’s life was filled with faith from an early age, inspired by the stories his mother told him of a miraculous healing experience she had before he was born. While he was still a child, his family moved to a farm in Idaho, where he was raised. Wayne learned the value of hard work, and gained a sense of commitment to family.
One prominent experience of his youth was attending the National Boy Scout Jamboree held at Valley Forge Pennsylvania in 1950. With his Boy Scout Troop, Wayne toured many of the historical sites throughout the nation.
After graduation from high school, he enrolled at Idaho State University in Pre-Med. His senior year, while serving as president of Lamba-Delta-Sigma, he met Charla Hancock, the love of his life. He proposed, and they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1958.
As his first three children came in rapid succession, Wayne took time off from college to provide for his family by working in the labs at Thiokol for several years. He then returned to his schooling at Utah State University, where he completed course work for degrees in Chemistry from Utah State, and in Pre-Med from Idaho State.
In 1966 he moved his family to Richland Washington to take a job at the Hanford Nuclear facility, where he worked as a Chemist and as a team manager for over thirty years before retiring.
While in Richland, Wayne and Charla were blessed with five more children. Throughout his life, Wayne was consistently engaged in service to others. He was known for his big blue van, which he used to haul numerous youth and family to various activities.
Because of his love for the Savior Jesus Christ, Wayne spent most of his life serving in various church callings and supporting missionary work throughout the world. His service included an 18 month senior mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the Los Angeles Temple, family history and visitor center with his beloved Charla. He continued his service well into his eighties, accepting numerous assignments to serve in many areas, including helping at Cub Scout day camp, and serving as Cub committee chair.
Wayne loved reading and collecting books throughout his life, and was always generous if someone needed help. His kids knew to call him if they ever needed a solution to a problem. In his later years, he was avid at crossword and other puzzles, and loved going on walks with Charla.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; all of his siblings; one son-in-law, Mark Geherin; and one granddaughter, Karen Sant.
He is survived by his wife, Charla; his eight children, Howard (Jennifer) Sant, Kathryn (Randy) Rhoten, Cheryl (Brent) Colton, Steven (Kaelynn) Sant, Larry (Tifani) Sant, Jean (Steve) Hatt, Linda (Dono) Balero, Michael (Rayleen) Sant; 30 grandchildren, and 55 great grandchildren.
We love you, Wayne, and we’ll miss you until we meet again.
Wonderful man and family. Yes he will be missed by all. We treasure the association we had with him.
So grateful to have had such a wonderful neighbor throughout my childhood. Wayne and Charla Sant are two of the best people I know. The Jolleys love them, and we were so lucky to live next door and to call them dear friends. Sending my love for calm and peace during this heartbreaking time.
