Kari Lynn Berg
Kari Lynn Berg was born on June 4, 1992, in Richland, Washington, to Owe and Kathleen Berg. A lifelong Richland resident, Kari built a life filled with deep family ties, loyal friendships, and countless treasured memories.
Kari loved the simple joys of life. Her favorite pastimes included agate rock hunting, fishing, water sports, playing slot machines, and, most of all, spending time with her family. Each spring break of her childhood was spent traveling to the Oregon Coast with her mom and siblings-memories she held close to her heart. She also cherished trips to Tacoma with her dad, grooving to oldies music on their way to visit family.
As the youngest of five, Kari was lovingly toted around town by her older sisters, Heidi and Hollie-grabbing coffee, going to the mall, and tagging along to visit friends. During her teenage years, she often traveled to Seattle to spend time with her brother Aaron, enjoying adventures along the waterfront and time aboard large yachts.
Kari shared an especially close bond with her sister Amy, being closest in age. Together, they spent their childhood making memories at Disneyland, SeaWorld, and Howard Amon Park, with Amy always watching over her as a caretaker and protector.
Kari graduated from Richland High School in 2010 and was blessed with a close-knit group of lifelong friends-Amanda, Rachel, and Chantae-whom she loved deeply and considered family. As a young adult, Kari lived with Amy and her husband, Matt, enjoying boating, socializing, and time with her many friends.
Kari faced and overcame many struggles in her life with resilience and strength. In 2024, she adopted a sweet dog named Khloe, who became a true light in Kari’s eyes and went everywhere with her. Together, they enjoyed long walks in the park and sharing burgers from Zip’s that Malia would bring home.
Kari took pride in her work and enjoyed several jobs over the years, with her favorite being at Love’s. This past summer, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Las Vegas with her girlfriend, Malia, delighting in the many slot machines she loved so much. In September, her Uncle Gary treated her to the beauty of the island of Kauai, along with Hollie and Shawn-a trip she cherished.
Kari had a special place in her heart for all of her nieces and nephews. Most recently, she proudly introduced her nephew Kash to fishing, and together they spent countless hours on the Columbia River catching bass and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
On December 19, 2025, Kari was taken far too soon after a brief battle with breast cancer, at the young age of 33. Throughout her fight, her sisters remained faithfully by her side, ensuring she was never alone. Amy stayed with her until the very end, comforting her and making sure Kari knew just how deeply loved and special she truly was. Her beloved pup, Khloe, also never left her side and was with her as she entered through the pearly gates.
Kari is survived by her father, Owe Berg; her sisters, Heidi Owen, Hollie Berg, and Amy Flippins; her girlfriend, Malia Burrows; her half-brother, Todd Kuther; brothers-in-law Dave Owen, Matt Flippins, Shawn Davis, and JT Thiel; uncles Gary Reinecke, Terje Berg, and Arill Berg; aunts Karin Deland, Cheryl Berg, and Jane Berg; nieces Bailee Thiel, Sierra Grego, Gracie Owen, Sophia Owen, Rianna Owen, Railey Flippins, Taylynn Henry, & Skyla Harrold; and nephews Jason Harrold, Devin Grego, Austin Thiel, Terren Owen, Kash Flippins, Everette Grego & Cameron Harrold. Along with numerous cousins from the Tacoma area.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Berg; her brother, Aaron Berg; her grandmothers, Beverly Reinecke and Dagny Berg; her grandfathers, Chester Reinecke and Normann Berg; her uncle, Eivind Berg; and her niece, Evelyn Grego.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 915 Bypass Hwy, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 1pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Richland Yacht Club, 350 Columbia Point Drive.
