Patricia Louise West (Patty) walked into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 19, 2025. She passed peacefully and was surrounded by love. She lived her life honoring Jesus, taught her children about Him and modeled what it looked like to be like Jesus to her family and everyone around her. She studied the Bible, memorized it and devoted her life to fulfilling what God appointed her to do. She worked hard, living life to the fullest and heard, “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” when she entered the gates of heaven. She wished everyone to know that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and the only way to the Father (John 14:6).
She was born in Denver, Colorado (the mile high city) on October 31, 1931, and spent her youth growing up in Central City. She always called herself a Rocky Mountain girl. She went to school in a one-room schoolhouse, participated in 4-H and was the valedictorian of her 8th grade class. She moved to the Tri-Cities when her parents took jobs at Hanford. She attended Columbia High School and was the valedictorian of her 1949 graduating class. She then graduated from Central Washington University and taught elementary school in Florida for a year.
She moved back to Tri-Cities and worked for Computer Science Corporation (CSC) and excelled in her work. She became a computer scientist in a day when that was considered a man’s field. Even though she worked full-time, she always found time to help her kids with their homework, attend their various activities (sports, music and ballet), bake homemade treats, attend PTA meetings and make us feel loved.
She was a member of MENSA yet always treated everyone with respect. She believed all men are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and are to be treated equally. She learned to square dance, obtained her pilots license, taught English in China, observed Halley’s comet in Peru, visited the Holy Land (Israel), rode the Orient Express, saw The Great Wall of China, rode the largest Ferris wheel and roller coaster in the world, was up in the world’s tallest building (Dubai), walked Hadrian’s Wall in Scotland (at age 84), hiked in the Antarctic, went on safari in Africa, visited the Greek Isles and hiked up to the Parthenon in Greece at age 87. She traveled to every continent in the world, even becoming a travel agent for a while. Suffice it to say she LOVED travel and adventure, and there are too many exploits to list all of them here.
She lived a full and adventurous life in her 94 years with us here on earth. Although her winning smile and loving presence will be greatly missed, we rejoice knowing she is at home with her Savior.
Patty was proceeded in death by James R. York, James V. Filsinger, Kenneth G. Old, her father, mother, two brothers, her sister and her son Robert. She is survived by her husband, Roy West, daughter Sandy (Billy) Gaudette, daughter Becky (Dave) Shupe, daughter Karin Spanner, son James (Nancy) Filsinger, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
