Philip Craig
We are celebrating the life of Philip A Craig on March 14, 2026, at Sunset
Gardens in Richland at 3pm, followed by a reception at Anthology Event
Venue, located at 706 Williams Blvd.
Everyone is invited to gather with family and share stories of this amazing man.
Philip peacefully passed, surrounded by family, on February 9, 2026, at his
home in Richland, Washington.
We are all comforted by knowing he & Joan were together again for Valentines Day.
Philip was born to Andrew & Lois Craig in Oakland, California on October
31, 1934, a birthday he shares with his 4th Great Grandchild Cooper. Early
in his life the family moved to Selah, Washington where he attended
school, enjoyed horseback riding in the William O. Douglas Wilderness and
married the love of his life, Joan (Sommer) Craig after graduating with his
Masters in Chemistry from Washington State College (now WSU).
He enjoyed an active life which included being a member of the Franklin
County Sheriffs Posse, a volunteer Fireman, Cub Scout Leader, Hanford
High School Performing Arts Booster Club Founder, Guardian Ad Litem,
Mason and Vestry Member of All Saints Church.
Phil & Joan moved to the Tri Cities in 1957 to start work for the Atomic
Energy Commission and start their family. Early on in his career Phil was
responsible for the safe transfer of Plutonium and continued to help and
guide the safe disposal and movement of nuclear waste. He retired from
the Department of Energy in 1998 after working to bring Lockheed Martin to
the Hanford Site.
Family was so important to Phil, we remember big family gatherings as
such special times.

Angels for their care, compassion & patience, ensuring that Phil wanted for
nothing.
The thing I will forever miss and not miss. But I hear him. His whistle. He used that like his life did depend on it. He would blow that thing like i couldnt hear it. Lol. Phil would blow that thing louder then before. When me and PJ would watching a movie or we just be sitting there. He blow that whistle so loud we both jump so high look at each other like what the heck is going on and we both run to the door. Now I hear a whistle it brings me to tears and I remember Phil. I know he letting me know he at peace. It was such an honor to care for Phil. Phil was so caring and thoughtful. Always made sure I was ok and comfortable and relaxed. Phil words to me always. Its going to be a long night. There a pillow and blanket get comfortable. Lol. Phil you will always have a big spot in my heart. It hurts that your gone but your at peace now. RIP Phil.
