Julie Anne Elder

Julie Anne Elder passed away on July 15, 2026, hands held by loved ones. A long-time resident of Richland, she was the second of three children born to Frances and Bob Hohman in Los Angeles, CA. Julie’s parents were her north-star, guiding many of her decisions and raising her to be a determined and faithful woman. As a child she grew in her love of animals, and her many cousins helped to solidify her belief that family bonds were of the utmost importance.

After meeting her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Elder, at Cal State Northridge, they married in LA and moved to the Tri Cities where they spent 46 wonderful years together. Here she gave birth to two sons, Andy and Tim Elder. These boys were the joys of her life. Raising them to be kind and successful men was her most sacred purpose.

Julie worked several jobs while living here, each demonstrating her commitment to service and amazing organizational skills: a medtech, an educational assistant at Christ the King Catholic School, and as an organizer for Junior Achievement. Living far away from her siblings and extended cousin network, she and Bob created a beautiful community here in Richland, demonstrated by their full Thanksgiving table every year. Through the decades, this table included friends that became family, young women that became daughters-in-law, and (in the last 16 years) her many grandchildren. Her other loves included her dogs, her Roman Catholic faith, volunteering at Christ the King Catholic Church, arranging her house to be as hospitable as possible for visiting family, the Oregon Coast, baking “Nana muffins” and celebrating her eight grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; sons, Andy (Caitlin) and Tim (Lauren); her eight grandchildren; and her siblings, Kathy (Dave) and Bob (Jon). She is preceded in death by her mother, Frances and father, Bob.

Julie is deeply loved and missed beyond measure. Those of us left behind will carry the best parts of her with us, until we see her again.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

A funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 10AM on Saturday, July 25th (rosary at 9:30 am) with a reception to follow at the church. Internment will then be held at Sunset Gardens by Eiman’s at 1pm.

  • Julie made an impression on me although we only spoke occasionally. It was obvious she loved her family. I often would hear “proud mother stories” about Andy and Tim, although I also heard these repeated by Bob. Julie was someone to emulate. Love for family and others is what drove her. And that family is who I now keep in my prayers. Julie made so many of our lives better and for that I give God thanks .

  • There are no words that can truly express your loss. Only your memories and ❤️love. The love that Julie carried throughout her life she gifted to all who knew her. That legacy is reflected in her family and will forever carry on.
