Matthew Arthur Bloomster

Matthew Arthur Bloomster, 35, passed away at his home in Richland Saturday, May 19, 2001. Matthew was preceded in death one week by his grandmother, Dorothy Bloomster. Dorothy and Matt were close as she moved to Richland when Matt was a toddler after the death of her husband, Clarence H. Bloomster, Sr. Matthew was also preceded in death by his mother Betty Lou Hillman Bloomster and grandparents Arthur S. and Mabel J. Hillman.

He was born June 9, 1965 in the afternoon at the old Kadlec Hospital in Richland. He was a graduate of Hanford High School and a member of Central United Protestant Church in Richland.

The youngest of five children four boys and one girl, he was happy to have brothers and a sister. He said that a person with no brother or sister is “a lonely child.”

He is survived by his father, Clarence Tona, Pasco, brothers Timothy, Richland; Wayne, Chicago; and Keith Kathy, Sandy, Utah; and sister Janet Greg DeMerritt, Santa Barbara; and nephew Kyle, several aunts and uncles and, the family cat that he named Blackie Barney, later adding the title Bishop to the front of the cat’s name because of the cat’s gentle nature with neighborhood cats.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Thursday, May 24 at CUP chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bypass Highway, Richland. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

  • Uncle Clare,

I am so sorry for your loss.

I remember the times that we would go bowling and out for ice cream, Matt was so loving and care free. We all could learn from him. I know that I wish that I could be as loveing and care free as Matt.

I also remember his name for me BoJo, it is a name that still sticks with me today.

Again, I am sorry for your loss and my love and prayers are with you and your family.

  • I just heard the sad news of Matt’s passing. I was his teacher for many years and to this day he is one of my favorite students. I often think of him and am saddened by his passing. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and cat.

  • Dear Timothy,

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your dear brother Matthew and your grandmother Dorothy as well. I enjoyed sharing a meal with you and Matthew at CUP church. It was nice to get to know you and having that time to chat. It was a treat to spend time with two brothers who cared about each other as much as you and Matthew. We will keep his memory in our hearts.

    Sincerely, Beth
