He taught in the Richland School District from 1954 to his retirement in 1982. He was a member of both the Elks and Moose Lodges. During his lifetime he enjoyed many interests including traveling with his family, music, coin collecting, bowling, rock collecting, shooting pool, playing cards, following sports, working crossword puzzles, and telling a good joke.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Bolkan, Richland; his daughter, Brenda Daniel, his son-in-law, Jim Daniel, his two granddaughters, Silverdale; and his sister, Pauline Thomas, Spokane.
Memorial plans will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to a charity of choice or to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House, Kennewick.
Was sorry to hear of your fathers passing. We had some great times together at Carmichael. As a young teacher in 1970, your father was a big help getting me started in a career that lasted 30 years.
His approach to Jr. High survival was a sense of humor, and a grounding in the real world. I learned to laugh a lot, and take seriously only those things that I had a chance to impact.
Your dad drove people crazy his last few years at Carmichael by never doing his hall duty I did it form him Others could never figure out why I would do that, and we never said a word about our deal. Each day he bought me lunch, and we would eat together in the lounge laughing and joking but never discussing hall duty. He said it was well worth the money to see the confusion on others faces. Education has changed a great deal, and I thank God for the opportunity to have known and worked with your father. You and your families have my deepest sympathy.

Great and patient teacher in the classroom and the art of pool.
Philospher and Friend.
Fun.
Gizzards and Livers.
I remember Mr. Bolkan as an engaging and dedicated teacher and can readily picture him today after many years. My thoughts, prayers and sympathy go out to the family, particularly to Brenda and Chris.
Sincerly,
Jack Sherman
We are truly saddened by your loss. Although our paths have not crossed often in recent years, we will always treasure the fond memories of the times we shared with the family in days gone by.
We were reminded of the water skiing days when we found those same skis recently in young Bob’s garage. Those shared times are priceless, especially remembering Lee skiing with the children.
And we remember how thrilled Bob, Jr. was to be placed in Lee’s class at Carmichael and his utter disappointment at being moved to another class. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
