Henry Warren Downing
H. Warren Downing, 89, of Richland, WA passed away Friday, August 24, 2001, at Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick, WA.
He was born June 17, 1912 at Salmon, Idaho to Venus Burke and Henry Downing.
Warren married Marjorie Sisler on May 25, 1940 in Grangeville, Idaho.
Warren and Marjorie have lived in Richland since 1962.
Some of Dads favorite memories are from smoke chasing in the 1930s for the Nez Perce Forest in Idaho.
Warren graduated from Lewiston Normal School in 1939 and started his teaching career, to be interrupted by the war. Warren and Marjorie both helped build ships in the Vancouver shipyard during WWII. Dad started as a welder and worked his way up to welding supervisor.
After WWII, he went to University of Idaho and finished his masters degree in school administration. He was a school administrator at Richland and director of continuing education until his retirement in 1974.
Warren was always an outdoor man and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and mining with family and friends.
Warren is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie; son, Darrell and his wife, Joyce; son, David and his wife, Susan; 8 grandchildren who loved him dearly: Cindy Lange, Donna Robillard, Angie Downing, Andy Downing, Megan Downing, Ryan Downing, Scott Downing and Brianne Downing; and 3 great grandchildren, Amanda, Katie, Jamie.
Warren is also survived by his sisters and brother: Lillie McPherson, Elbert Downing, Mable Painter, numerous nieces, nephews and relatives from Idaho and
Montana.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Violet and brother, Lester.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at Einans Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be at Einans from 2 to 8 p.m. both Monday and Tuesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chaplaincy Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336.
