Richard Stark Ewing EINANS FUNERAL HOME Richard passed away on Friday, October 26, 2001, at the Life Care Center of Kennewick, Washington. Richard was born in Portland, Oregon on September 29, 1922 the son of Howard Raymond and Winnifred Stark Ewing. He was the youngest of their three children. Richard married Kathryn Mae Ferguson on June 11, 1944, and they had three children. In 1950 the family moved to Richland, Washington and Richard went to work for the General Electric Co. in the accounting department. Richard later accepted a job with the AEC, which later became the Department of Energy, and remained with them until his retirement in 1979. His early retirement was influenced by his desire, since childhood, to ''travel and see the world'' and he did see a good share of it. Richard loved music, especially that of the ''big band era'', and during his youth, he spent many weekends dancing to those same bands in Portland. He enjoyed and participated in bowling, softball, golf, tennis, canoeing, and, of course, watched baseball and football games each weekend on television. Above all, Richard loved life, family, friends and his memories. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn and is survived by their two sons Richard H. Ewing and Ronald L. Ewing, and a daughter Linda Kay Dougherty, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 1,2001, at Einan.s Funeral Home. Private entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made in Richards name to The Neurological Center, Alzheimers Support Group, P.O. Box 1238, Richland, WA 99352
Dick was a very special person to my family. He and Kay watched my daughter, Jennifer, when she was a baby. “Grandpa Dick” was someone we loved very much. His laugh was infectious and his positive attitude was always appreciated. Our hearts and thoughts are with you, his family. Please accept our sympathy. I know it is hard to lose a parent and now you have lost two so close together. Your parents were great neighbors and friends. We will miss them, but their memories will live on. Thank you for sharing them with us. Take care.
I first met Dick as he wished to be called back in 1984 at N reactor. He was working as an escort for new hires who did not have security clearances yet. Dick was assigned to the RadCon group where I worked and was liked by all. Even after our group split up we sometimes got together 5-6 of us and would ask Dick to meet us for breakfast. He was a great man and I wish I had stayed in touch with him much longer.
I’ll always remember him fondly. Steve
