Evelyn passed away peacefully in her sleep at Kadlec Medical Center, Richland, WA on November 29, 2001. Born in Steamboat Springs, Colorado on 7/25/24 she was the first baby born at the east portal of the Moffett Tunnel. Beloved mother of Gregory S. Carla Cheri Markel and Sharon M. Mom was a single parent who graduated from Big Fork High School in Montana, attended college night school for two years in Spokane, WA, while working long days in a Dry Cleaners. Evelyn retired from Hanford G.E. thru Flour after 30 plus years as a dedicated employee in the Payroll Department. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge, was a starting founder of Community First Bank and enjoyed watching people. She was a member of the Westside United Protestant Church in Richland.

We will all miss her clever wit, her teasing ways, her wisdom filled comments, her generosity and her way of always being there. She will always be present in our memories and we thank her for each precious one. She will be missed and mourned by many. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Washington State University Tri-Cities Nursing Fund at Community First Bank Flashcube, Kennewick, WA.

  • Evelyn was a great person to have as a neighbor. We lived across the street from her for almost 6 years. She liked to “spoil” our dog, calling her over for a visit whenever Molly was loose. I think Evelyn would have kept Molly all the time if we would have let her. After we moved in 1997, Evelyn would always ask how Molly was when Gary and I would go visit with her. She was a beautiful person.
