Alice Joyce Steen Joyce died on Feb. 15th at

Kadlec Medical Center in Richland of injuries she received in an automobile accident on December 4 th, 2001 .She fought a good and valiant fight. Mom was born on March 13th, 1927 in Eugene, Oregon to Meryl and Albert Jacobson. She received her schooling in Salem and Portland, Oregon and worked there after graduation. On July 10th, 1948, she married Francis Steen. They moved to Richland where dad worked at Hanford and mom became a homemaker and mother of two sons. She and dad were very active in the Richland Kennel club, breeding, training, and showing Irish Setters and Maltese . They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in Richland in July, 1998. Dad preceded her in death in January , 1999. In July 2001 , mom realized her lifelong dream; she hosted a trip to the UK for a group of 30 family members and friends . Mom was a planner, list maker, and a good and influential friend and mentor to those in her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her . Mom is survived by son Jerry and daughter -in law Judi and son Mike of Richland, nine grandchildren, 1 9 great -grandchildren, sister Helen and brother -in- law Bill Wittenberg of McMinnville, Oregon, Sisters-in- law Janet Jacobson, Joann Helterline, and Joanie Fairbairne, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends . A viewing will be held at Einan's Funeral Home in Richland on Sunday, February 17th from 5:00 until 8:00 pm and prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be held at Einan's on Monday, February 18th at 2 :OOpm. Interment will be in Portland, Oregon following services at Lincoln Memorial Chapel on Thursday, Feb. 21st at 2:00pm. We want to publicly thank the wonderful staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center ICU: Drs. Hales , Fisher, and Carter, and those exceptional, caring nurses and aides who enabled mom extra weeks of life so that we had time to say goodbye. We also want to especially thank sister-in-Law Janet Jacobson for her care, attention, and devotion with all those cards, letters, emails, and calls that helped keep Mom's spirits up during the tough times. Contributions can be made in mom's name to the Richland Kennel Club to benefit police service dog training .

  • Hi grandma, I’ve been thinking about u a lot lately. And there’s been many things going on in my life tht have made me think of u so much and Wish tht u were here with us. I sure wish my kiddos had the chance to meet u and learn some of your ways….I guess that’s on me now . Lol I miss and love u grandma.
