Fred Leroy Woodruff

Fred Leroy Woodruff died at the age of 90 in Kennewick, Washington on February 28, 2002. He was born February 1, 1912 to Sena Reidsema and Frederick L. Woodruff in Holland, Michigan. Fred married Mildred Elizabeth King July 24, 1934 in Holland. He worked as a gardener and zoo keeper in Michigan and Illinois before they moved to Pasco, Washington in the early 1940’s, where he worked for the railroad.

He and Mildred moved to Corbett, Oregon in 1947, where they lived for 44 years before moving to Gresham, Oregon to retire in 1991. In Corbett, Fred worked as a gardener and farm operator for the Harry Byrne estate for most of their residency, but also worked as a Corbett School custodian for several years. Fred and Mildred were members of the Corbett Christian Church.

Fred was preceded in death by Mildred. Survivors include sisters, Evelyn Boss and Mae Dyer of Michigan, sons, Donald L. of Cornelius, Oregon and Roger K. Woodruff of Richland, Washington, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Fred is remembered for his quiet gentle strength and kindness, hard work, and his special skills in creating beautiful gardens and landscapes.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at the The Gresham Funeral Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave, Gresham, Oregon. Visitation will be held prior the service. Private interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery.
