Mary Lopez Rodriguez, 76, of Richland, WA was born February 2, 1926 in Harlingen, Texas. She passed away peacefully at Kadlec Medical Center on May 23, 2002 after a short illness.

Mary married Manuel Garza Rodriguez on December 1, 1947 in Harlingen, Texas. In 1954, they moved to the area, eventually making their home on Riverside Drive in West Richland , WA. Mary worked at various part-time jobs in her lifetime, but mostly remained a ''stay-at-home'' Mom, raising five kids. She was a member of the VFW and earned the title of ''Gold Star Mom'', an honor given to Moms who have lost a son overseas, when her son George died in Vietnam in 1970. It was an event that forever changed our lives.

She is survived by her children David Rodriguez and wife Linda of West Richland, WA, granddaughters Angela and Teresa; daughter Mary Elizabeth Rodriguez of Alaska and granddaughter Michelle; son Michael Rodriguez of Richland! WA! granddaughter Dena Moon and twin great granddaughters Zaire and Zianna of Richland, WA; daughter-in-law Mary Zarate of Kennewick, WA; mother Rita Lopez; and sisters Benita Lopez and Oeiores Havier all of Harlingen, Texas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mary also enjoyed and appreciated the friendship of her special neighbors Richard and Holly, Debbie, and Lupe. Thank you for always being there.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Cruz Lopez, husband Manuel, and sons George and Richard Rodriguez.

Mom loved razzing David, Hershey bars, chicken, pizza and red beers, watching her soaps, and reading ''Inquiring Minds Want to Know'' magazines. She religiously kept in touch with numerous relatives by phone, including knowing what was happening with her kids' friends, many of whom she enjoyed a special relationship with. Tamales at Christmas were a tradition we will try to keep going, but we know they'll never be like yours. We'll miss you Mom.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Tuesday May 28,2002 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland, WA.
