Edgar C. Wood Richland,WA
Edgar C. ''Ed'' Wood passed away October 24, 2002. He was born on April 3, 1927 in Sickles OK to Edgar and Nellie Wood.
Ed spent all of his childhood and teen years in Denver CO where he had fond memories of growing up alongside his three brothers, Zane, Joe and Pat. In 1944 the family moved to Richland where Ed played football at Richland High School for what was known then as the Richland Beavers. After high school, Ed served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific until the end of WWII. After returning to Richland from his stint in the Navy, he met Margaret Luther in front of the High Spot, a popular dance club in town, and there began a life-long relationship. Ed and Margaret were married in 1948 and have been Richland residents all throughout their lives.
Ed began his work career at Hanford as a laborer and later as a journeyman electrician with General Electric. He later worked for Douglas United Nuclear as a Manual Writer and ended his career with Energy Northwest, retiring in 1983. Ed's interests in life were varied and many. He especially loved downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, water skiing and golf. He built a cabin at Spout Springs in the Blue Mts. with his family in 1966 and spent many weekends and vacations there enjoying good friends and good times. Later in life, Ed spent time doing intricate model shipbuilding and invented his own tools to make tiny parts for his ships. Most mornings Ed could be found on the golf course, walking 18 holes rather than riding in a cart and was doing just that during most of his chemotherapy this past year. It was just mid-summer that he had to begrudgingly cut back to walking nine holes and only quit attempting to play golf at all in September.
Ed's friends and family will remember him most as a warm and friendly guy who was generous with his time, quick with a joke, and always ready to help others.
Ed is survived by his wife Margaret, son Mike Wood and wife Mary of Willamina OR, daughters Chris Blankenship and husband Terry of Richland, Janet Asbridge and husband Bob of Vancouver WA. , brother Joe Wood of Yakima, brother Pat Wood and wife Judy of Tacoma, and sister-in-law Betty Wood of Richland. Grandchildren Eric Blankenship and Genoa Sibold-Cohn, Mark Blankenship and wife Jessica, Joe Asbridge and Danny Asbridge, and nieces and nephews: Steve, Tom, Paul, Joann, Susan, Jim, Rex, Joe and Emily.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother Zane.
Services will be held Monday, October 28, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Einan's Funeral Home, Richland, WA.
