Lillian Lil Harriet Herring
Lillian Lil Harriet Herring, age 74, died Monday, October 14, 2002, at Kennewick General Hospital. She was born in Roseburg, Oregon on May 18, 1928. She lived much of her life in Redding, California. From the late 1970s until the fall of 1985 Lil resided in Meridian, Idaho. She then moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she spent the next several years. In 1994, she joined her son, Marty, and his family in Ontario, Oregon. That summer she fought and won against breast cancer. In January 1995, she moved with Martys family to Kennewick, Washington, where she resided until her death.
Prior to a stroke in 1960, Lil worked for Pacific Tel & Tel now Pacific Bell in Redding, California. She spent the first few years after the stroke adapting to the changes in her life. She had always been an artist. Even after the stroke she continued exploring various art forms. During the time she lived in Meridian she produced several prize-winning ceramic pieces.
Lil enjoyed many things. She loved to play cards, go dancing, and hear from old friends. She explored needlework and ceramic arts. While living in Anchorage, she worked for her friend, Lenore, at Kodiak Furs when she could. Going out to eat was a favorite past time. And in everything she did, everywhere she went, people loved this precious lady.
She is survived by her three children: Cheryl Denise Hull, James Allen Herring, and Nels Martin Marty Herring. She also has seven grandchildren: Sandra, Robert, Jessica, Nels II, Bethany, Trevor, and Jonathan Herring.
Lillian was preceded in death by her mother, Frida Carlson, her father, Nels Carlson, and her sister, Enid Dicker.

Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland, Washington.
We were always amazed at all the various interests Lil maintained. We look back with pleasant memories of the times we spent with her. We still talk about the time she went for a ride in the airplane with Gary’s brother, Dennis. In spite of her physical limitations, she certainly had a lot of spunk. It was fun to see the sparkle in her eye when we took her out to dinner with the family.
We will certainly miss our visits with her.
Our prayer is that God will draw her family close to Him and comfort them with His presence during this time of grief.
Love,
Rachel and Gary
I was really sorry to here abour your Mother. She’s a sweet lady.
I know you are drawing close to God at this time for comfort. Our prayers are w/ you.
I will be leaving town Friday so I’m sorry that I will not be able to attend the service.
Again, Lord BLess you and family. Your Friend Roland
I knew Lil as my sister’s mother-in-law, so I did not know her very well. However, my limited contact with her left me with a very definate impression. I would describe Lil as having a very gentle courageousness that caused me to admire her. Lil rose above the physical limitations that she struggled with and strove to live her life to the fullest. I admired her courage in moving residence from place to place, and her cheerful disposition whenever I spoke with her. I will always remember her sparkling eyes and radiant smile.
My thoughts and prayers are with Marty and Sharron and their kids, also with Cheryl and Jim as you all traverse this time of sorrow.
Cheryl, Jim and Marty, you and your families are in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless and keep you during this sad time.
Not metioned were the numbers of high school friends of Lil who have kept in touch through the years and will miss her.
I’ll never forget when i came out to Washington to see you, I’m really going to miss you!
Thank you for sharing with us during this time.

My sympathy to you.

I met Lil at Life-Care where I worked. She was a wonderful precious lady and I will miss seeing her. Despite her chronic problems with pain she treated everyone so nicely.Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend her memorial as I have to attend my own father’s memorial service today. God Bless you all. Lil loved her family so very much. She really enjoyed all the beautiful flowers that were sent to her at Lifecare.
Love, Bonnie
Marty and Sharon,
Sorry to hear of your loss, but we know she has fought long and hard, and is in a better place. Let us know if we can help in any way.
Marty, Sharron and all,
I feel as though I knew your mother through the years from hearing from you and talking with you about her. You’re in my prayers. May God give you strength through this difficult time.
