Vera M. Haugen, 80, died peacefully February 23, 2003, surrounded by her family. She was born June 6, 1922, in Malta, Montana and grew up on the family farm. Vera attended a country grammar school, graduating from Malta High School in 1940. She married Galen Haugen in July of 1940. They made their home in Malta, where they had their first two children, Leilia and Barbara, later settling in Spokane, Washington where their son, Bob was born. In 1947 they moved to Richland, Washington, where they settled and raised their family. Vera was an excellent homemaker and was an accomplished seamstress.

In 1982, her husband Galen retired and they spent many years traveling to Palm Springs and Reno with long-time Richland friends. They also enjoyed many cruises, and of course, visits with children and grandchildren. Vera will be greatly missed by all of her loved ones.

Vera is survived by her husband Galen of 62 years, three children, Leilia Pierce and family of Seattle, Barbara Jetton and family of Seattle, Bob Haugen and family of Medical Lake, sister Nora Hershman of Richland, brother Shirley Sutton of Kalispell, Montana, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Her mother, Anna Clawson, her father, Nolan Sutton and brother, John Sutton, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel at Einan’s Funeral Home in Richland, Washington, on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 1:00 pm. Pastor Steve Gutzman of Medical Lake will officiate.
