Amalia Molly De La Puente

In loving memory of Amalia Molly De La Puente, age 86, of Richland, Washington, who passed away on June 30, 2003.

Molly was born on April 23, 1917 in West Tampa, Florida to Manuel and Celia Diaz. She grew up in Tampa, and as a young girl, she helped raise her nieces and nephews, and later worked in a cigar factory. In 1935 she married Miguel Mike De La Puente. They had three daughters in Tampa, and in 1944 moved to Richland, where Mike worked on the Hanford project. In Richland, they had another daughter, settled in, raised their family, made friends, but she never quite got used to the heavy winds and dust storms.

Molly loved her family most of all and enjoyed her home, working in her yard, bingo, traveling, Mariners baseball, and their little dog Heidi. She loved music, had a beautiful voice and you could always hear her singing. She was a member of the Richland Baptist Church.

She was a wonderful wife, Mother, Grandmother, and friend. We will miss her laughter, her great sense of humor and her loving and caring ways.

Molly is survived by her loving husband, Mike, of 67 years. Her daughters: Nilda Carpenter and her husband Dave of Pensacola, Florida; Elsa Osborne and her husband Gene of Richland; Verna Millspaw and her husband Robb of Vancouver, Washington, and Dot Egeland of West Richland; her Grandchildren, Tom and Michael Carpenter, Daryl Roberts, Tracy Costanzo, Laura Roberts, Melanie Horn, and Justin Egeland; her Great Grandchildren Blake Carpenter, Brandon Roberts, and Sara and Jared Costanzo.

Private graveside services will be held July 3rd at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Benton Franklin Co. 8620 West Gage Boulevard, Kennewick, WA 99336.

Mom, we will always love you, we will miss you dearly, and you will always be in our hearts.

As you danced in the light with joy, love lifted you. As you brushed against this world so gently, you lifted us. - T. C. Ring

  • Dear Mike and Family,

I just want you to know how saddened I am about the loss of Molly. I have missed you both so much since you have moved, but I know you are in good hand’s being in elsa’s and Gene’s house. I would like to come by and visit you soon, but in the meantime, you and your family are in are prayer’s and thought’s. I want to thank you for all the year’s of being great neighbor’s and friend’s, your support that you alway’s gave me and my kid’s and knowing I could come to you for anything in time of need or to just come to visit. I know the Lord will guide you through this time and give you all you need. Take Care and we will see you soon.

  • Elsa, Dot and Family,

I am truly saddened to hear of the passing of your mother. She was the highlight of my day when she was with us at Lourdes. I think of her often, everytime I see her picture on the wall. She was always a joy to be around, even though she was not in the best of circumstances when I knew her. Just know that she was one of my favorite patients and I will never forget her. Everytime I see the Young and the Restless on in one of the rooms, I think of her and it makes me smile.

When I think of Molly, I remember things like her ‘teaching’ me to drink coffee with more cream than coffee in it – and dipping a butterflake roll into it! yummy.

She was a warm, cheerful, friendly, kind neighbor to me, as I was growing up. Always a smile on her face.
