Shirley Lou Fransen

Shirley Fransen, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 1, 2003.

Shirley was born in Wenatchee on March 4, 1929.  She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in History.  She married Dean Fransen and moved to Richland in 1966.

Very active in her community, Shirley served in both volunteer and civic positions.  Her contributions included: serving on Richland City Council from 1970-73, Benton County Board of Equalization, Benton County Mental Health Board, League of Women Voters, Mid-Columbia Symphony Guild, Volunteer Center-Sheba Program, and Salvation Army Angel Tree.

Shirley had a great zest for life in all she did.  Tennis, travel and the arts were her passions.  She traveled throughout the world with friends and relatives.

She is survived by daughters, Cindy Fransen and Jenny Fransen, Richland, WA; son, Christopher Fransen, Rockville, Maryland; niece, Shirley Alderson, Pasco, WA; nephew, Charles Croker, Milton, WA; and grandchildren, Joey and Sarah Dickie-Fransen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Fransen; sister, Patricia Croker; parents, Earl and Hazel Goss; and stepmother, Josephine Goss.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 7th, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Einan’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Einan’s on Sunday, July 6th, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Tri-City Cancer Center, 7350 W. Deschutes, Kennewick, WA 99336 or Mid-Columbia Symphony Guild, 1407 Goethals Dr., Richland, WA 99352.

The family would like to thank Shirley’s caregivers; Total Care Met, Nicole, Elva, Cassandra, Donna and Debra; Marilyn; and Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice. Their loving care and support allowed Shirley to remain in her own home and die peacefully with family present.
