Carl J. McMullen, of Richland lost his extended battle with cancer and passed away on Thursday September 18th, 2003 at the Tri-Cites Chaplaincy Hospice House.

He was born on November 28th, 1927 in Otis, CO. He was raised in Otis and Akron. He entered the Navy at age of 17, he served in World War II he was honorably discharged and released in 1945.

He then followed his heart and love of his life, and in 1948 moved to the Tri-Cites and married LaVon Massengale on April 15th, 1950. To this union; one son, Tim McMullen was born May 1962.

In 1950, Carl became a construction worker and entered the ironworker apprentice program, and became a vested journeyman. He was an ironworker for 53 years, a member of Local Union #14 and worked on numerous dams, bridges, and high-rise buildings. He later retired from Fluor Daniel.

Carl enjoyed casino gambling and bowling in league play for which he won numerous Trophy’s and awards. He was a member of the Local VFW and a resident of the Tri-Cities for over 55 years.

Carl was a caring individual, loving husband and father. He had a big heart, which touched many lives. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his son Tim McMullen of Richland, WA; sister, Eva Riggs of Waldom, CO; sister-in-law, Delores Bryson of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Including; Judy and Jim Reed of Kent, WA; Jim Reed Jr. of Kent, WA; Bryon Barnett of St. Petersburg, FL; many friends and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his wife LaVon McMullen; father, John R. McMullen; mother, Eva Gladys McMullen; sister, Bertha Lantzer; brothers, Ernest McMullen, Glen McMullen, Rex McMullen, and Orvile McMullen.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 23, 2003 at 1:00pm at Einan’s Funeral Home and a graveside to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland. Visitation will be on Monday from 11am-8pm and on Tuesday from 9-11am at Einan’s Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions and donations may be made to the local American Cancer Society and the Tri-Cites Chaplaincy Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336.
