Gen Hozumi

Gen Hozumi, 90, of Richland, passed away on September 4, 2003 at Kadlec Medical Center. She was born on January 25, 1913 in Kagoshima, Japan. She lived in Richland for 28 years.

She was raised in Amami-oshima Japan where her family had a farm. She moved to the U.S. in 1972 to live with her daughters. She traveled across the U.S. several times, living in Montana, Florida, Kansas and Washington. She enjoyed listening to and singing Japanese folk songs, playing the harmonica, gardening, and reading the Japanese newspaper. She loved having family around her, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will miss her smile and gentle, loving spirit.

Gen is survived by two daughters Hisayo Parker Richland, Sakiyo Manchester Missouri; a daughter-in-law Harumi Yokono Osaka, Japan; eight grandchildren Julie Quaintance Kennewick, Donna McCue Richland, Kathy Miles Spokane, Naomi Ofrancia Richland, William & David Manchester Kansas. Kazumi Inaba & Hiromi Kioi Osaka, Japan; eleven great-grandchildren; Sara Elfering Pasco, Jamie McCue Richland, Adam & Ashley Miles Spokane, Ben & Maria Ofrancia Richland, Bailey Manchester Kansas, Kenta & Kana Inaba, Yoshitaka & Saki Kioi Osaka Japan, two step-great-grandchildren Emily and Ricky Neverette Kansas.

She was preceded in death by, her mother and father, 4 brothers, 2 sisters and her son Yoshinobu Yokono.

A private memorial service will be held at the family’s home at 3:00 pm.
