Dorothy Gartner Filkowski
In memory of ...
Dorothy Gartner Filkowski, a wife, mother, grandmother and friend left us to be with the Lord on November 20, 2003, at Kadlec Medical Center. Though she left us so quickly, her love win be with us forever.
Dorothy was born in New England, N.D. on July 29th 1938. She graduated from Saint Mary's High School in the same town she was born and raised. She attended Saint Alexius School of Nursing, in Bismarck, N.D. After graduation, she worked as a nurse at St. Joseph's hospital in Dickinson, N.D., where she met her best friend and sole mate, Ron Filkowski. They were married and soon after moved to Richland, W A where they have lived for 36 years.
Dorothy enjoyed taking long walks or drives to no particular destination. She looked forward to Saturday morning visits with the Spudnut Shop friends and every Wednesday morning spent with her ''Breakfast Bunch.'' Of course, her traveling and other engagements could never conflict with her Thursday ''Grandma Day,'' where she spoiled her grandchildren with many hugs and cookies.
Dorothy has touched many lives through her generous ways. She was always welcoming friends and family in to her home. She put forth so much effort for others, but never asked for anything in return. Dorothy's knack for listening was therapeutic - whenever there was a problem she was there.
She will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends and how she adored being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Ron Filkowski, son Jon Filkowski wife Melissa, daughter Nicole Anderson husband Bradley, Jr., mother Katherine Gartner, sisters Mary Koller husband David, Caroline Robinson, and Kathleen Gartner, grandchildren Bradley Anderson III, Noel Anderson, and Alina Filkowski.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Christ the King School or the Richland High School PTSA Lois Schmidt Scholarship fund.
The rosary will be held at 7:00pm on Monday, November 24th at Einan's Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 25th at Christ the King Catholic Church.
The first time I met Dorothy was when she and Ron lived on Catskill and I sold her AVON. Then years later our sons, Scott and Jon became good friends and we renewed our friendship. I will always remember Dorothy as a very lovely person. My thoughts and prayers are with each one of the family in their loss. Jeanette
Wayne & I are very sorry for the unexpeted loss of someone who seemed very loved by all she knew. Nicole, We will be praying for you and your family, that God’s Grace and Comfort abound. The Lord Says,: BE CAREFUL FOR NOTHING; BUT IN EVERYTHING BY PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION WITH THANKSGIVING LET YOU REQUESTS BE MADE KNOWN UNTO GOD. AND THE PEACE OF GOD, WHICH PASSETH ALL UNDERSTANDING, SHALL KEEP YOUR HEARTS AND MINDS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS. PHILIPPIANS 4:6,7 For all who know Christ shall be comforted in times of affliction. Our Condolences,
Wayne & Reanna Dubois
Our sincere condolences to Ron and family. Dorothy left us all too suddenly. She will be missed by many people. Some of our memories of Dorothy include her dislike of mice when we were boating on the Ringold sand dunes; when she offered a glass of wine it was always “a spot of wine” and hers was always with ice; she loved ice cream and one of her favorites was “Peanut Butter Buster Parfait”; “Daisy” was definitely one of her favorite past-times. We miss you – John and Darla
Dear Nicole and family – I am very sorry to hear of your loss. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless – Leslie

Ron,
Joann and I just learned about the death of your wonderful wife. It was a shock to us. We are so sorry. It was obvious that you two were true soul mates and deeply in love with each other. We will miss seeing her come to church with you.
We are saddened to learn of her death.
Michael and Joann Rung, 11-29-03
John & Family,
I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. She was always so friendly when I would run into her out and about. She was very proud of her grandchildren and would show me pictures of them. Your whole family is in my prayers during this difficult time. God Bless you all.
Jon and family,
I was sorry to hear about your mom. I have nothing but fond memories of her and the times spent at your house while we were growing up. You have all been in our thoughts and prayers and will continue to be.

I have such amazing memories of Dorothy, having lived across the street for the first 9 years of my life, and playing with Nicole almost every day. She always had a smile and kind a word for me, and she seemed always willing to let Nicole and I play and explore and just have fun! She will be deeply missed.
