Geri Dawn Kopp

''Sweet and Gentle like a Fawn, that's my darling Geri Dawn''. Dad Geri Dawn Kopp, age 50, of West Richland, WA passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Kadlec Medical Center due to complications from a long term terminal illness.

She was born January 19, 1953 to Harold and Edna Heuer Schonberger in Fargo, North Dakota.

Geri grew up in North Dakota and lived in Fargo, Minot, Williston and Bismarck where she graduated from Bismarck High School in 1971. On April 24, 1976 she married John Kopp in Bismarck, North Dakota and they made Cottage Grove, Minnesota their home. On October 28, 1977 her daughter Kristie was born and Geri and Kristie moved to Bismarck, North Dakota and then to the Tri-Cities in 1991. Geri was employed in Richland by Westinghouse, Kaiser and then Fluor Federal Services.

Geri was a member of Richland Lutheran Church and enjoyed reading, movies, and taking care of her dog, Bentley, who was her constant companion. Prior to her illness, Geri taught Sunday School at Richland Lutheran Church and was devoted to her daughter, Kristie, and our families.

She is preceded in death by her father, Harold. She is survived by her daughter, Kristie Kopp, Seattle, Washington; mother Edna Schonberger, Richland, Washington; brother James Becky Schonberger, Bloomington, Indiana; sisters Jan Steve Wisness, Richland, Washington; Jackie Bruce Slonecker, Pasco, Washington; nieces Jaime Ryan Femreite, Richland, Washington and Andrea Slonecker, Pasco, Washington; nephews Charlie and Robert Schonberger, Bloomington, Indiana and Ryan Wisness, Richland, Washington.

Einan's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be a private family service per Geri's wishes. Contributions may be made to the United Way, 401 N Young, Kennewick, WA 99336 or an organization of your choice. Geri will be greatly missed. We know Geri is finally at peace and happy.

  • I enjoyed working with Geri at the ND Parole/Probation Office in Bismarck ND. She taught me alot and when she left her position in our office, I assumed her job duties.

I loved to hear her laugh. She had such a cute giggle. I remember her & I laughing alot at work because it made our jobs easier to deal with. I remember her talking about Kristie alot. I know I met Kristie only a few times but felt I really knew her well as Geri was very proud of her and spoke of her often. The Christmas letters Geri shared over the years were always filled with lots of news about Kristie and the dog Bentley too!! I will miss those Christmas letters from Geri.

My thoughts and prayers are with Geri’s family. I know Kristie that your mom enjoyed sharing her life with you as you were a very important person to her as well as the rest of her family members, but especially Kristie.

  • Geri and I worked together while she was employed at Hanford with Kaiser and Fluor. Geri had a wonderful laugh, cherished her daughter and enjoyed her reading, movies and her Bentley! She will be missed and may she have the peace and joy she so deserves. Thoughts, prayers and sympathy to Kristie and the rest of the family.
