Urshel C. Thomas

Urshel U.C. Thomas died on Saturday March 27. A long time resident of Richland, he arrived in 1948 after serving during World War II in the European theatre. He was born January 9, 1920 in Oklahoma.

While living in Richland he met and married his wife of 54 years, Carolyn. Together they raised four daughters: Diane, Janet, Jacqueline and Leslie. During a long career at Hanford he served as Vice President of the Chemical Workers Union and often served as arbitrator in union affairs. He retired as a manager in 1988 after 40 years at Hanford.

He began traveling with his wife, volunteering with the National Park Service. With their Westies and grandchildren, they had many interesting adventures.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Carolyn, daughters Diane Thomas Odell Thomas, Janet Thomas, Jacqueline Dillon John and Leslie Thomas, as well as grandchildren Alexis, Lindsay, Andrew, Anna, Erin and Bridgitte. He is also survived by his 2 remaining brothers, Glen of Oklahoma and Milton Lloyd of Missouri.

At his request there will be no service. A memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
