Martin William Hickey
Martin William Hickey, age 46, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 23, 2004 following a fight against cancer. He and his family rededicated their lives to Christ on Easter Sunday 2004.
Marty was born in Sacramento, California on October 29, 1957 to John Peter Jack Hickey and Clarice Faith Baird.
Marty attended Columbia Richland High School. On February 19, 1977, Marty married his sweetheart Debora Kay Poorman in Albany, Oregon.
Marty worked at Fluor Hanford for 21 years. The many people he met were not just his co-workers, they were his friends.
Marty loved spending time with his family, Pepsi, Prime Rib on Fridays, baseball Mariners, the beach, shooting pool and his remodeling his home. Marty was always willing to help his friends and family with their projects and reveled in a job well done.
He is survived by his wife Debbie, his daughters Chana and Dena and his son and daughter in law Kurtis and Tawnya Hickey and their daughter, Martys sweetie Kiauna Joy; by his father Jack Hickey Joyce, his sisters Jackie Lynch Kerry, Sheryl Smith Les, Suzanne Davenport Jim and Shelley Tippit Shayne and brother Gary Diana. Marty is also survived by his extended family, Jerald and Ruth Poorman, Jerry and Jan Poorman, Sharon and Gary Gass, Richard Poorman and many deeply loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Clarice.
A celebration of Martys life will be held on Tuesday, July 27th at 4:00 p.m. at Southside Church, 517 Jadwin Avenue, Richland WA.
Husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son and friend. There are no actions or words to fill the void that your absence creates in our hearts; only the knowledge that we will be together forever when we join you in heaven.
The family respectfully requests no flowers. Donations can be made to Southside Church or the charity of your choice.
We had the privledge to see Marty, Debbie and the family 2 days before he passed. It was truly a blessing. It is so hard to see a life extinguished so young and yet Marty lived a good life, laughed hard and loved a lot. He is with Jesus now, where we should all long to be one day…he just went before us. Our thoughts, prayers and encouragments to the family who will miss him terribly. Always remember there is hope and comfort in Jesus.
Love,
Mike and Lisa
Debbie & Family –
I pray my mom and Marty are walking together right now. With my own sorrows, I still feel for your family, and have been thinking of you guys these last few days. Just want you to know that I am so glad I got to talk to Marty and laugh with him recently. I’m praying for your strength in the next few weeks. We will not forget him.

Dear Debbie and Family, I heard the memorial service was heartfelt and wonderful, just how Marty would want to be remembered. I wish I had been there but really enjoyed my time visiting with my much missed cousins on Sunday. You are a wonderful family, you are all very lucky. I know the days will not erase or lessen the pain of missing our husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend but each day will bring us closer to being with him again in paradise. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all in the days ahead as Marty’s absence from your lives will be most evident. Keep in touch.
Much love and gratitude,
Lisa Fairburn and Family

FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS.
We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. We thought of you yesterday, and days before that too. We think of you in silence, we speak your name with pride, and we relive our memories of living side by side. Your memory is our keepsake with which we’ll never part. God has you in his keeping- we have you in our hearts.
We will always remember our computer wizard. Thanks for all the help. We shall remember your positive attitude and your special laugh. We will miss our cousins night out for prime rib! We salute you for the magnitude of dignity that you displayed throughout your illness. We will miss you immensely.
To Debbie, Jackie, Gary, Sheryl and families, please know that our thoughts are with you at your time of loss.
Love and Comfort,
John & Jeanne
Dear Debbie and family,
Even though I haven’t seen you in a while or kept in touch, I’ve thought of you often. I’ll always remember the friendship you all showed to my family and I. Rachel still talks about going to the beach with you.
I’m going to miss Marty. Last time we emailed…I said something about breakfast and we never made it. I’m going to miss him and the emails that he sent in the last few months.

It was upsetting for me to learn of Marty’s untimely death. I worked with Marty for about 8 years at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. I was cognizant engineer of the secondary treatment train which Marty often supported. I always loved it when I heard that Marty would be my operator. He had a wonderful work ethic and can-do spirit. It seemed the tougher the job the better he liked it. And he always did a good job in an expeditious manner, a job we could take pride in.
He also had a good sense of humor and I could always kid around with him. He made my job fun.
I know you will miss him tremendously, and my deepest sympathies are with you, his family.

Debie:
We have followed Marty’s progress and prayed for a miracle because he had so much more to give and so much time left in life to give it.
It was not to be and he is now with God and he has good company. You have our deepest sympathy. I wanted to deliver it in person on Tuesday but I just wasn’t up to it. Zane
