Axel Conrad Garberg

Axel C. Garberg rolled out with the thunder and created lightning as he joined the others above early Tuesday morning, August 3, 2004.

Axel was born to Vern B. and Vivian Garberg on October 7, 1943, in Superior, Wisconsin. On August 23, 1963, Axel married his high school sweetheart, Tonya Day.

He worked construction for 20 years as a laborer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and four-wheeling. He spent the previous 10+ years growing cherries.

Axel is survived by Tonya; four sons, Vernon F. Garberg, his wife, Kathy and daughters, Carmen and Wendy; Tony T. Garberg and wife, Jodi and daughter, Jordon; A. Scott Garberg, and Gib D. Garberg, DC; sisters, Verna Lee Prochy Andy and son, Greg; Lila Gardner Doug, son, Benjamin, daughter, Alicia and her husband, Jess; Billie Dawkins Kevin son and daughter, Michael and Katlan; brothers, James Michael Joyce Carla and Michael; Benjamin Don Sheri; Dennis Ray Lisa Hillary, Marisa, Lexie and Charles.

“Gramps” will be remembered by all for his generous heart, his care packages when family was ill, the predicaments he got himself into, hunting stories, his love for his family, his laughter, ornery nature, his “well taken care of” granddaughters, and his sidekick, Minnie.

Friends and family are welcome to join a celebration of Axel’s life on Saturday, August 14, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. for a potluck dinner at the Benton City American Legion.

Donations may be made in Axel Garberg’s name to the American Heart Association, 1280 S. Parker Rd., Denver, CO 80231.

We both are deeply saddened to learn of his passing..Both Larry and I know you, the family, are reeling in the most difficult feeling of loss and disbelief..Please know, you all are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time..

We would have loved to join you, his family and his friends the 14th..due to our own family commitment,we will just send along this condolense and heartfelt sympathy..

Axel was always bigger than life itself and we will fondly remember his gentle kind spirit..

  • Axel was my best friend in high school at KI-Be. I lived right down the road from Axel. Whenever we came home to Benton City on vacation, we always looked Axel and Tonya up. We are glad that we got to see him this year. The dinner was great. We will always remember the good times we had together. Our prayers are with Tonya and the rest of the family. God bless you all.
