Irene Wilhelmina Carolina Roggow Sump was born September 3, 1908 to Henry and Louise Golnitz Roggow at the parents home in rural Peterson, Iowa. She was baptized September 5, 1908 and confirmed May 25, 1924 in Immanuel Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school and was the church organist for several years.

Irene married Roy Sump on December 29, 1937 in Immanuel Lutheran Church. They lived on a farm in Spring Township, Cherokee County, rural Aurelia, Iowa. Upon retirement they moved to the Tri- City Retirement Inn in Pasco, WA on October 1, 1984. She lived her last years in Richland, WA.

Irene died October 31, 2004 in Richland, WA.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her parents Henry and Louise Golnitz Roggow, sister Erna Stief, and an infant sister.

Surviving are her son, Kenneth Sump and wife Sharron of Richland; grandson Kevin Sump, wife Kristine, and their daughter Katarina of Richland; grandson Craig Sump of West Richland.

Other survivors include two sisters Rosina Pingel and Aleda Stief both of Aureila, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be at Einan's Funeral Home from 3_PM to 8_PM on Thursday November 4, 2004 Graveside services will be at 9:45 AM on Friday November 5, 2004 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 520 Thayer Dr., Richland, Pastor Meyer officiating.
