Lucille W. Steffens

Lucille W. Steffens passed away on November 19, 2004 after battling cancer. Born in Bickelton, she grew up on the farm that her parents Charles and Minnie Williams homesteaded. Graduating Valedictorian of her class, she went to study at Central Washington University. Lucille married the man of her dreams, Arnold Steffens, on September 13, 1947 and they raised 4 children in Richland. After moving to Midway, she drove a school bus for the Richland district. In 1987, they moved to Grandview when Arnold retired from Bonneville Power.

Lucille blessed the lives of all those she knew and was the sunshine of our family. Her enjoyment was serving and giving to others. Lucille’s sense of humor left a lasting impression. She was admired for her warmth and strength and she lived life to its fullest. Lucille will be greatly missed and will live in our hearts forever.

MOTHER by Janis McDonald

She was a gift of God and God will have a gift of love above. She touched everyone in a special way, she really could make our day. She loved to cook, clean, sew and be on the go. She had a special personality and would open her arms and home with hospitality. We will miss her touch, we will miss her so much. She would not want us to be sad, she had a journey; she would meet up with Dad.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 51 years, along with 5 brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her children; Jim and Jan Steffens of Puyallup, Jeff Steffens of Finley, Loretta Rowlette and Janis and Jim McDonald of Richland. Grandchildren: Jason and Tammy Rowlette, Gene and Kelli Rowlette and Scott and Shantella McDonald of Richland and Jeff and Eric Steffens of Puyallup. Great grandchildren; JD and Montana Rowlette and Attallah and Orion McDonald, Siblings: Glenn and Earl Williams, Louise Ingraham, and Norma May Nelson.

Services will be Friday, November 26, 2004. The graveside will be held at 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland followed by a memorial service at 2:30 pm at Richland Lutheran Church on the corner of Stevens and Van Giesen in Richland. Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

  • I worked with Lucille many years in the school adm. building. She was a joy to work with. I’m the guy who signed her paycheck. She and Arnold had me to lunch in Grandview after we both retired. I will be out of town and not able to attend the memorial service. I was with people from Richland Lutheran tonight and they too mourn your loss. Don Wick, Dir. of Bus. Services

  • Lucille was a lovely woman and a wonderful sister-in-law. While we regret being unable to attend the funeral, we will remember the last time we saw her, smiling and enjoying her friends and family. The world is a sadder place without her and she will be missed.

  • Lucille was one of the best people God ever put on this earth. We will miss her very much. I have many fond memories of her, one as anyone who ever went to her home knows, you never left hungry. Growing up and even now Lucille was like a second mother to me. We were privileged to have known her. Mike

  • Lucille was very dear to our Meyers family. With Ella & Jake as church friends, doing Mom’s hair, and Arnold’s visits with Dad as special gardeners. Our family visits for Lucille’s “stop by for cookie & coffee” invites — Letter writing which Dad continued after Mom’s passing — Lucille always so upbeat, warm and sharing with her talents, home and family. Always willing to share a chuckle, help out and just be there. It was a special joy for Don & Marti to keep in close touch with Lucille and Arnold, and try to treat them as they were – very special to us and the Meyers family. Its also special to have the two couples laid to rest so near each other at Einan’s. Now renewed peace and joy for Lucille, being back with her Arnold. Our prayers that God’s comforting, healing and blessings be with the Steffens families and friends.
