Adella Ann Last

Adella Ann Polve Last, 79, went to join her Heavenly Father late on the night of April 8, 2005. Adella was born April 15, 1925 in the coal-mining town of Kenilworth, UT. She was the third of four children born to Dominic and Jenny Polve.

Adella graduated from Carbon High School in Price, UT in 1943 and attended the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where she met her future husband George A. Last. She graduated from the University in June 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a High School Teachers Certificate. That fall she went to work teaching English at Juab High School in Nephi, UT.

On September 12, 1948, she and George were married. They moved to Richland, WA in July 1951, where they had two children: Mary Ann and George Vincent. In the spring of 1955, they returned to UT so George could work for the Kennecott Copper Co. research laboratory. As part of this new job, George and Adella moved to Santa Monica, CA and Oak Ridge, TN. In 1959 they returned to Richland where Adella taught 8th grade homeroom at Chief Joseph Junior High School and 9th grade homeroom at Carmichael Junior High School. In 1969, she quit teaching to become the Personnel Director for Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Pasco, Wa.

She was a life-long member of Delta Gamma, the American Association of University Women AAUW and of a local 'Literature Group'. She loved to read and knit and was a faithful companion for her husband for fishing, rock hounding, camping, snow skiing, bowling and bridge.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, George A. Last, her two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her daughter is Mary Ann Campbell Don of Kennewick, WA. Her daughter's family includes grandson Jeff Beck Stacey Reynolds and greatgranddaughter Enes Beck of Bellingham, WA and granddaughter Elisa BeckWatabe Yutaka Watabe of Portland, Or. Her son is George V. Last Linda of Richland, WA. Her son's family includes granddaughter Shannon Last Sturgis Ryan and great-granddaughter Hannah of Liberty Lake, WA and grandson Aaron Last of Ventura, CA. She is also survived by her brother James Polve Dorothy of Provo UT.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dominic and Jenny Polve and siblings Lamar Bud Polve and Yvonne Polve Jewkes. She was a loving wife, mother, motherin-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, companion and friend. She is missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2005 her 80th birthday at the Richland Church of Latter Day Saints, 1321 Jadwin Ave, Richland, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House and Counseling Center, 2108 W Entiat Ave, Kennewick, WA 99336

  • I have the fondest memories of what Aunt Adella did for me while my mother was in the hospial. It was one of the most difficult summers of my life, but she helped me make it through. She cared for me, taught me to swim, even helped a young country boy endure life in the city. I owe her a great debt for the loving care she gave and the lessons she taught.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We wish circumstances were such that we could be with you.
