Wanda Emma Winterfeldt Tyler

Wanda Emma Winterfeldt Tyler, 76, of Richland, was born to Walter William and Elsie Pearl Wells Winterfeldt on June 18, 1929, in Stigler, Oklahoma and passed away August 31, 2005, in Richland, Washington.

Wanda grew up on the farm.  She attended Stigler schools and graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University Oklahoma A & M.  She also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

She came to the Tri-Cities in the summer of 1952 as a summer missionary with the Southern Baptist Convention.  While serving in Richland, she met Val Dalton Tyler.  They married on June 1, 1953.

Wanda worked as a social worker and supervisor for the Department of Social and Health Services from 1966 to 1992.

Wanda was a Sunday School teacher and served on several committees in her church.

She is survived by husband, Val Dalton Tyler; children, Cheri Ann Tyler Derryberry and Merry Elaine Tyler Svenson; sisters, Rena W. Thompson, Esther Winterfeldt, and Helen W. Miller; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one sister Pearl Winterfeldt.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2005, at Richland Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Association.

  • I share your grief at the loss of Wanda. She was a truly remarkable woman, so loving and giving, even when she was so sick.

    I lost my wonderful husband of 50 years just a few months ago and I know only too well the emotions you are dealing with and I have found out that those who have also suffered a great loss are the ones who understand the most. I am here to help in anyway I can. Love, Judy
