Catherine Teresa Zimmer

Catherine Kay Zimmer died December 31, 2005 in Richland, Washington. She was born in Avoca, Pennsylvania on February 7, 1918 to Patrick and Anna Reap Burns. She graduated from Pittston Hospital School of Nursing in 1939 as a registered nurse and worked at Fordham hospital in New York City. Kay married C. Wayne Zimmer in 1943 in the Bronx and immediately moved across the country to California, where Kay lived in Roseville while Wayne was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco. After the war, they settled permanently in Roseville, building their own house on Maciel Avenue. During her career, she was the head nurse at the Sacramento Army Depot dispensary. Kay lived in Roseville for 58 years before moving to Richland, Washington in 2001. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Roseville and Christ the King Catholic Church in Richland. She was a past president of the St Rose’s Altar Society. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joseph Burns and Gervase Burns, sister Mary White, and her husband of 51 years, Wayne. She is survived by a sister Harriet Moran and brother Patrick Burns and his wife Harriet, all of Fairborn, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law Mary Ann and Steve Simmons of Richland, Washington, grandchildren Stephanie and Peter Simmons of Richland, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Quail Hollow for their loving care over the last 4 years.

Private inurnment was held at Calvary Cemetery in Sacramento, California. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 PM February 11, 2006 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1126 Long Ave., Richland, Washington, with a reception to follow at Quail Hollow, 221 Torbett St., Richland.
