EINAN’S FUNERAL HOME

Mabel Marie Harwood Beck, 95, of Richland, was born July 31, 1910, in Rawlins, Wyoming and died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at Richland Rehabilitation Center.

Mabel lived her early childhood in Rawlins, WY and moved to Pasco when she was 10 where her father took a job with the railroad. She grew up in Pasco, and went to Pasco schools, and after a year of nursing school in Seattle, came home to marry Johnny Beck in 1932.

Johnny’s dad had a grocery store in Pasco on Third & Lewis. Around 1936, Johnny, Mabel and their growing family built the Riverview Market and Cabins on South 10th on the Pasco side of the old Pasco/Kennewick Bridge. From 1936 to 1992, Mabel kept the books, packaged, priced and manned the register, as well as caring for Janet, Jack and Lianna.

Mabel was a member of First Methodist Church in Pasco, the Lady Lions, and the Pasco Bowling Leagues.

When World War II began, Mabel regularly worked for the USO providing food and friendship for sailors stationed at the large Navy base in Pasco.

She was a Lady Lion during the days when the Lion’s Club sponsored the first several Water Follies held at Sacajawea Park.

Mabel was a marvelous bowler winning numerous personal as well as team trophies until she quit bowling at 78 years of age when Johnny became ill. After Johnny’s death, Mabel moved from her beloved Pasco home to live with daughter, Janet and husband, Bill, and then to Guardian Angel Homes in Richland in 2004.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Beck, her mother and father and 5 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter Janet Bill McCue of West Richland, WA; son, John Claudia Beck of Palmetto, FL; daughter, Lianna Jon Hake Edwards of Granite Bay, CA; grandchildren, Lauri Roberts of West Richland, Kevin McCue, David McCue, and Stan McCue, all of Richland; Julie Beck of Tacoma; Andy Beck and Stefanie Woolweaver, both of Palmetto, FL; John Edwards of Sacramento, CA; Anna Hake and Ben Hake, both of Granite Bay, CA; numerous great and great great grandchildren.

Mom was a good and kind mother, strong and moral. To her husband of 60 years, she was a lifelong helpmate. Children always responded to her delighted smile. Her many loves included kids, cats and many friends. She goes home now to the Lord and to a well deserved rest. Praises.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on June 16, 2006, in City View Cemetery, Pasco. Friends of the family are invited to attend the service.
