Virginia S. Rulon
Our beloved mother and grandmother, Virginia S. Rulon, died peacefully at home on July 10, 2006. She was born on May 25, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois, to Howard Morgan and Marion Nye Scott.
She spent most of her childhood in Winona Lake, Indiana, graduating from Warsaw High School in 1940. The family moved back to Chicago in 1943, and she worked as an X-ray technician at Michael Reese Hospital for Dr. Katz. Her mother was the manager of the Greenbrier Hotel and it was there she met her future husband, Lyle G. Rulon. They were married in June 1945, and Lyle brought her out to the desert, arriving in the middle of the night so she couldn't see what a desolate place it really was.
Virginia and Lyle had three children, Bill, Becky, and Penny, and she didn't work out of the house until Penny started school. She was a secretary throughout her working career, first for McGahee Real Estate, Central United Protestant Church for 20 years, and finally Kaiser Engineers, retiring in May 1984.
She was an accomplished seamstress, making most of her clothes and her children's and eventually her grandchildren's clothes. She was a great cook the best cinnamon rolls ever, and had the most infectious laugh you could hear for blocks! She was in Beta Sigma Phi for 53 years, belonged to PEO, BPW, Altrusa, Wesleyan Service Guild, and upon retirement volunteered at Kadlec Auxiliary in the Tuesday Sewing group. She is a past President ofthe Kadlec Auxiliary and got to ride in the car with Dr. Corrado for the 50-year celebration of Kadlec Medical Center. She held many offices in the other organizations in which she belonged and had many accolades bestowed upon her by those same organizations, was constantly volunteering for everything, and enjoyed having meetings and entertaining at her home.
Upon retirement, Virginia and Lyle enjoyed traveling and finally when their son and daughter-in-law presented them with three beautiful grandchildren, they enjoyed babysitting, attending all their sporting events, and watching them grow into fine young adults. She enjoyed several camping trips with her daughters Penny and Sam, going to dinner at Dennys with Penny and ''terrorizing'' her friends there you know who you are. . . she loved you all, and the many trips she took with Becky to Indiana and Florida to visit her sisters and their families.
Virginia is survived by her sisters Mary Ann Scott Cox of Winona Lake, Indiana, Georgia Helen Scott Venable and husband Edward who called her '''the midget'' ofIndianapolis, Indiana, son Bill Rulon and his wife Susan and children, Scott, Morgan, and Whitney, and daughters Becky Rulon, Penny Rulon, and Sam Grimsley, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who called her Aunt Gee Gee.
The family wishes to thank Rose Gustafson for helping Becky care for mom the last ten months and the angels at Hospice for caring for mom and us the last week of her life so she could stay at home.
There will be a celebration of Virginia's life at 11 :00 am on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Central United Protestant Church, with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Virginia's memory to Hospice Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, Kadlec Auxiliary, or the charity of your choice.
I, Becky, had the privilege of caring for mom the last seven and a half years of her life. She was my little buddy, and I will miss her dearly as will we all but I know she is with dad now and at peace.

Dear Becky, Penny and Billie
So sorry to hear about your mom’s passing. Such a wonderful woman. Have great memories of New Years when your folks, Ruhrbockers sp and my folks would get together to celebrate. Yes, your mom had a great laugh. Can hear it now. Take care of yourselves during these hard time. Your memories will carry you through. Fondly,
Jan Nelson Vic and Mildred’s daughter
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Your mom was a very special person and I have great memories. The girls who worked for Vitro/Kaiser spent many evenings in her home for our get togethers. She helped me organize my daughters wedding and make it special. We had great times together. We were the runts of the group and we enjoyed it. My best to all “Dee”
My prayers and thoughts are wiith you all. Your mother had a beautiful smiles on her face. She was a sweet and fun person.
Virginia was one of my favorite people; a real sweetheart. When I was growing up, it was my goal to “be as tall as Aunt Virginia” and in recent years, my daughter, Jordan, had the same goal! We enjoyed visiting with Virginia and Becky and seeing Virginia and Penny at Denny’s. Our thoughts are with you all.
I remember Mr. and Mrs. Rulon as wonderful caring people. It is easy to see children who are raised by loving parents. Little Billy Rulon is certainly and example of that loving family. My love to you Billy. You are always in my heart as is your family. I love you. Jamie
My sincere condolences to the Rulon Families. I remember your Mother well…starting with kindergarten at Sacajawea to June of 2004 when I dropped in unannounced to visit…She was a treasure!
