Richard Creamer Baker

Richard Creamer Baker passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at his home in Richland, WA. He passed quietly and quickly in his favorite chair in the home he had built in 1961.

Richard was born January 11, 1915 in Fayette, IA to Dr. Frank L. and Edith Creamer Baker. His brother Marcus Baker preceded him in death.

Richard married Louise Hintze September 21, 1940 in the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Iowa. Louise passed away in December 1996. They started their married life in a 16-foot aluminum trailer following Richard’s job with Dupont to Alabama and Minnesota. In 1943 Richard was sent to Hanford. The couple lived in the Buckingham Apartments on Naches in Yakima. Their next move was to Richland in 1945. Richard retired with ARCHO in 1977.

In 1997 Richard moved to Des Moines, WA to spend the next six years with Virginia Murray, whom he had known since childhood in Fayette, IA. They spent their time together traveling until her passing in 2004. Richard moved back to Richland with his daughter, Susan.

Richard attended Upper Iowa University and Iowa State University receiving degrees in Civil Engineering, Forestry and Business Administration. He was a member of the Pasco Elks until he transferred his membership to Tacoma. Richard served as President of Chief Joseph PTA and Richland Players.

Richard is survived by his daughter Susan Hoover, Richland. He also leaves behind his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Angela and Chris Moore, Jessica and Immy, Fairfax, VA, Dallas Richard and Kelly Hoover, Mikayla, Brandon and Aubrey, Gig Harbor, WA, Daniel and Nikki Hoover, Ellie, Boise, ID.

The family requests that donations be made to the Union Gospel Mission.
