02/21/1949 — 11/24/2006
From Richland, WA, US | Born in Tonasket, Washington
Alfred Vern Robinson
Alfred Vern Robinson, age 57, went home to be with his Lord and Savior November 24, 2006 due to thyroid related health problems. He was born in Tonasket, WA on February 21, 1949 and lived in the Oroville-Tonasket area until he went to college in Bellingham, WA in 1967.In high school he was active in basketball, football, baseball, track and field, and played the trumpet in the band. He also played football for the WWSU Vikings the first season that he was there. In 1970 he married Gayle Gray, his high school sweetheart, and they lived in Bellingham for one year. He graduated from Western Washington University with honors in 1971 with a Bachelor degree in chemistry and then was granted a full research grant at Oregon State University. In 1974 he received his Masters degree in three areas: radiochemistry, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry. Shortly after graduation he was employed at Battelle and he and his wife moved to the Tri-cities where he raised his family. He is credited with over 30 scientific publications. During his time here in the Tri-Cities he was also employed at U.S. Testing Laboratory where he was the Director of Hazardous Substance Analysis, and later he was employed at Science Applications International. For the last nine years he has been a self employed scientific consultant in the areas of health physics and has worked on contracts through Environmental Quality Management and Dade Moeller and Associates. He was a member of the Health Physics Society and the Clover Island Yacht Club.
Al was an amazing combination of being a wonderful, thoughtful, loving husband, father, brother, son and grandpa, a highly skilled and dedicated scientist, a hunter and fisherman, ''rockhounder'' and a man that enjoyed every aspect of life. He loved his most recent acquisition, his jet boat, which he enjoyed for some fishing and for family fun. Everyone around him enjoyed his amazing sense of humor and zest for life. For a few years he enjoyed singing bass in different singing groups at his church. In the last few years through his health problems he was determined to keep living to the fullest of his ability and the family enjoyed many precious times together.
Al was the best husband and dad any family could ever hope for. He spared nothing in taking care of his family's physical and emotional needs. His family meant everything to him. We have peace that he is in Heaven with the Jesus he loved and served, but was such a strong personality and ''character'' that his going to heaven is leaving a very large void for those who knew and loved him.
Al is survived by Gayle, his wife of 36 years, two sons, Jeremiah and Jordan and their wives Sarah and Elizabeth respectively, and the two grandchildren who were the apples of his eye, Grace 3 and Lance 8 months, who all reside in Richland. He is also survived by his parents, Al and Mary Alice Robinson of Tonasket, sisters Diane Peterson Grass Valley, CA, MaryAnn Scappucci Seattle, Holly Waller Okanogan, and brother Rodney Robinson Tonasket, and their spouses, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Other survivors are his brother in law, Stephen Gray California and mother in law, Olive Gray Tonasket.
He will be remembered and honored at a memorial service at First Baptist Church, 1107 Wright Ave. in Richland at 11:00 on Saturday, December 2 where he has been a member since 1974. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-City Union Gospel Mission. Friends may express thoughts on the Einan's Funeral Home website, www.einanfuneralhome.com.
Al was a good friend and colleague for more than 20 years. I will miss him but I will always remember his quick laugh and sense of humor that made working with him such a pleasure.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Gayle & boys during this ever so difficult time. May God surround you with his presence and peace continually. We will always remember Al as a caring, loving, smiling and kind hearted person. What a JOY to know that he is with his Father in Heaven. We thoroughly enjoyed watching him serve Jesus at FBC Richland. We are praying for you all.
Much LOVE & PRAYERS,
The Roberts 4
Smart & fair man. I’m going to miss him as a colleague and friend.

Although I never knew Al well, the few times I was around him I witnessed his gentle spirit, kindness to others, and love for his family. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jordan, Jeremy, and Gayle.
Robert Lehnert and Family
Our families were brought together in the early 80’s through our son’s friendship in the first grade.
We will always remember Al by his contagious laugh and great personality. He was a very kind & caring man & I’m sure his loss will be suffered by many for years to come.
With many regrets we will be out of state and will miss the chance to pay our last tributes to Al on Saturday. Our thoughts and prayers will be with the family during this very difficult time.
We love you all. Steve & Susan
Dear Gayle, Jeremy and Jordan and family,
I just had to let you know how my heart has been breaking for you all, since I heard the day after Thanksgiving about Al. I have had you all in my prayers multiple times…
My heart felt love goes out to you all. Hugs too. Al always greeted me with a smile and a hearty handshake…I wish he were still here, but God knows.
Hope I didn’t mispell on my grand daughter’s computer, as I am not used to the keyboard. Hope to see you Saturday.
Love in Christ,
Dale
My prayers are with Al’s family as you go through this difficult time. I worked with Al over the last several years. He was was a great person professionally and was a joy to chat with. The one thing I’ll remember most about Al was that there was always something to chuckle over when you talked with him! And when Al chuckled, he also had a sparkle in his eye — so you knew he was sincerely full of happiness. He’ll be missed by his colleagues.
Al was one of the kindest and happiest men I’ve ever known and a wonderful neighbor. I’ll remember him with fondness. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you — especially Gayle, Jeremy, and Jordan and your families. I’m so sorry for your loss. May God comfort and bless you in this hard time.
Love, Brittney
A great loss of a great neighbor. I know we relied on the Robinson’s – especially Al for a myriad of things from plowing the driveway to “farming” advice. You will be sorely missed by all the Anderson clan. Kevin
We will miss the deep laugh, the caring about others, the sharing. How wonderful to have had twenty years of living next door. Our thoughts are with each of you. May the Lord’s gentle confort bless you with sweet memories. Love, Larry and Sally
As Al’s neighbor in my youth and again in the last year or so, I have appreciated his kindness, sense of humor, and excellent thoughts/advice on many topics. We will miss having him around – a fixture of Candy Mountain for almost 20 years. I know we will hear his laugh in the Tri-City winds as they sweep over the ridge on Candy Mountain.

Dearest Gayle & boys, I am so sorry to hear about Al. My prayers are with you all. I will always remember how Al always made me laugh, even when I was going through some rough times. You all remain very special in my heart. Gayle, call me if you ever need anything. Your friend always, Mickey
Al has been a special person to us for many years. And regardless of the number of years, our friendship with him will forever be cherished. The fun times during past fishing and bird hunting outings were special times and resulted in many laughs as well as peaceful fellowship. We will dearly miss him. However, through salvation, we know that we will once again rejoice with him in heaven. Thank you God for AL.

I worked with Al at SAIC in the 90’s. He was always quick with a joke and a pleasure to work with. My deepest sympathies to the family.
I will miss Al and his jolly laugh that is so distinctively his. My heart goes out to all family and friends! He will be miss by many, he was a great neighbor and great friend. Gayle, Jeremy, and Jordan and family my prayers have been with you for this hard time and I know he is still with you in spirit!
