Lillian Dorothy Moy

Lillian D. Moy 104, passed away December 6, 2006, at Lifecare Center in Richland. Lillian was born September 23, 1902 to Clarence and Belle Barber in Manlius, New York. She grew up and went to school there until she left to attend Syracuse University. Lillian graduated with a degree in nursing in June 1924.

Lillian met her husband Claude while both were attending the university; he was working his way through college by riding the hospital ambulance and she was a student at the hospital. Lillian and Claude were married June 24, 1924. Barbara, their only child, was born in Syracuse New York July 1928. Lillian worked for many years in Syracuse as a surgical nurse. Her favorite position during those years was as a supervisor in the children's ward.

In 1935 Lillian and Claude moved to Jackson Hgts. in the borough of Queens, New York City for Claude's new position. They lived happily in New York for 38 years. When her daughter Barbara and her family moved to Richland Washington in 1968, Lillian and Claude followed in 1973 after Claude retired to be near the family.

Lillian and Claude did many years of volunteer work with the Richland Senior Citizens Center. They were members of the Central United Protestant Church, in Richland. Lillian loved playing Pinochle and tending her favorite houseplants, African Violets. After living in NYC for so many years she loved her home and yard where she planted her favorite flowers red roses.

When Claude died in 1986 Lillian moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, living very happily for 15 years. At the age of 99 Lillian moved to the Lifecare Center in Richland. She enjoyed the many activities and the warm and caring people who cared for her. She saw them as her extended family.

Lillian is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and David Oakley, of Richland; her 4 grandchildren, Susan Husa, Dr. David Oakley, Karen Durant, and Barbara Holmberg; 6 great grandchildren, Kiri, Erik, Sara, Christina, Ryan and Adam; 1 great great-grandchild, Aidan; one niece Marlene Miner; one nephew Donald Barber; and granddaughter's husband Ted Durant. She was predeceased by her brother Carroll Barber.

A memorial service will be held at Einan's Funeral Home in Richland WA December 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m.

  • My condolences to you and your family, I first met Claude and Lillian while I was working for the Council on Aging while it was housed at the Senior Center. They were such a close couple and it was obvious that they really cared for one another. She was a very nice person with a beautiful soul. She will be greatly missed.
