Clarence ”Mac” Dale McCurdy

Clarence Dale ''Mac'' McCurdy passed from his earthly life on April 6th, 2007. He was welcomed to his heavenly home by his Lord with open arms after a long illness. He also was greeted in heaven by his father Clarence D. McCurdy Sr and his mother Ruby G McCurdy, stepmother Helen McCurdy, father-in-law Harold Klusman and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mac joined the Navy in 1962. He served on submarine tenders and was near Cuba during the Cuban Crisis. He also served in Scotland. In 1965 he began writing to his pen pal who became the love of his life whom he married in August of 1966. Together they began their married life in San Diego, California where their daughter, Lisa, was born; then on to Guam for a couple of years and then was sent to Homestead, Florida and there son, Ken, was born.

In 1974 he left the Navy and the family of four settled in Richland. Mac cooked at several restaurants and was one of the chefs that opened the Holiday Inn in Richland. In 1976 Mac started work in the Hanford Area. He worked for several contractors during his 25 years of employment. He retired early for medical reasons. Mac loved to camp in a cozy travel trailer and fish. He and his family spent many happy weekends and vacations for fourteen years up on Chinook Pass by the Naches River. But best of all, Mac loved to cook.

He was a man that was totally committed to serving his Lord. He was also very proud to serve his country. He wanted to travel after his retirement, but due to medical reasons was not able to travel more than a time or two to the Oregon and Washington Coast.

He is already missed by his wife Janice McCurdy, daughter Lisa McCurdy, son Kenneth McCurdy, a very special mother-in-law Pat Klusman and one grandson Joshua Brannon. He is also survived by brother Charles and wife Shirley McCurdy, brother Jacob and wife Peggy McCurdy, sister Synda Waddington and her husband Art, numerous cousins and nephews and niece in Virginia. He will also be missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Rich Alegria of Spokane, and brother-in-law Norm Klusman in Waldport, Oregon. He will always be remembered by his special co-worker, friend, and video game player Dan Campbell. He will also be missed by his special orange companion tabby cat Milo.

At Mac's request there is a wonderful team of Hospice Workers that are truly angels to be thanked and told of his love for them.

Mac wished a gathering of friends and family to share happy times and memories to celebrate his life. This gathering is to take place at 2:00 PM Saturday April 14, 2007. The place is Apollo Hall in Richland Mobile Home Park. The address is 35 Apollo Blvd, Richland WA

No flowers please. A memorial donation in his name would be greatly appreciated. This can be done through Hospice House at the Chaplaincy2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336.

  • I will always remember Uncle Dale as the best cook on the planet – me and my family truly savored his culinary delights and wonderful company. He was the “big bear” of the family and will be missed terribly. Never enough times to tell him we loved him very much.

My wonderful Aunt Jan has lost her soul mate and for that I am very sad for her. I love you so much and wish I could ease the hurt.

To Lisa and Ken, my cousins, I cannot imagine the sadness and emptiness you feel right now. I guess the only real blessing is knowing your dad is not enduring any more pain and suffering.

Knowing he is with the Lord now, happy and healthy is so uplifting and does help ease the pain of his loss.

I love you all, and will see you at the Memorial.
