Elizabeth ”Liz” Anne Duncan
04/24/1980 — 04/21/2007
From Seattle, WA, US | Born in Richland, Washington
Elizabeth ”Liz” Anne Duncan
Elizabeth Anne Duncan Liz went to run with the angels and be with our Lord Saturday, April 21, 2007, as a result of a car pedestrian accident in Seattle. Liz was born in Richland, WA on April 24, 1980, to Denny and Nanette Duncan. She graduated Richland High School excelling in academics and athletics. Starring in soccer, basketball, and track, Liz accepted an athletic scholarship to Washington State University where she majored and graduated with a degree in Biology. She was a Coug through and through. While there she met lifelong friends and extended family who she loved dearly. There she began a devoted relationship with our Lord. After graduation, not knowing exactly which path to take, she chose to accept an assignment to join staff with Athletes in Action and eventually accepted an assignment in Xenia, Ohio. Again, her passion for life and sharing Gods message of salvation for all through Jesus Christ touched those around her. Eventually, Liz decided that her work there was complete and it was time for a new challenge with new scenery. Since her mother told her that she should never live farther than one day driving distance, she moved back to her home state of Washington in the summer of 2006. She accepted a new career path with Brooks Sports Inc. With her never ending passion for sharing Gods message in a calm and loving manner, she immediately made new friends who shared both her passion for running and her faith. Her hope and greatest desire is that we will all join her in heaven for a fantastic party. Over her short 26-years, Liz touched so many lives. Her love of God, family and friends was evident in all that she did and will be forever felt by her family and friends. We will carry her smile in our hearts forever. She is our baby, our sister, our friend, and now our angel.
Liz leaves behind her mother and father, Nanette and Denny, her brothers Terry and wife, Danielle, Jon and wife, Melissa, her nephews Devin, Alex and Lanson, and niece Kayla. Other special friends include God parents Mike and Michelle Stevenson and their children, special and long life friends Lindsey Jorgensen, Julie Vanni, extended parents Frank and Becky Jorgensen and a world of family and friends. Lizs love for God, family and friends has left an indelible mark on all that knew her. We will always love you babycakes and as you would have it, GO COUGS!
Liz loves vibrant flowers, lilies of the valley, gerber daisies, and lilacs and they would be a wonderful contribution for the celebration of her life. Donations can be made for the Athletes in Actions Scholarship Fund in Lizs honor through Brooks Sports. Checks can be made out to the Liz Duncan Memorial Fund and mailed to the address below:
Liz Duncan Memorial Fund c/o Brooks Sports, Inc. 19910 North Creek Parkway, Suite 200 Bothell, WA 98011-8215
The money will be used for scholarships funds for student athletes to participate in summer projects.
In celebration of Lizs life there will be a memorial service at Bethel Church on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation at Einans Funeral Home will be on Friday, April 27, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 28, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
My condolences to the family. I met Liz through Brooklyn Heynen Lowe and she was one of the most beautiful and amazing women. She will truly be missed. God bless your family and friends in this time of sorrow and rememberance.

We will truly miss our Miss Lizzy. She was a shining star and a light on a dark day. God radiated His love through her. It was a privilege to run with her whenever she came to town and to have her on our Mountain Run Relay Team.We actually got to run in many races with her and train with her. We are forever blessed to have known her. We kept in touch with her no matter where she was and we know that God needed her in heaven to help Him.
We are praying for all those that she left behind that do not know Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour that they would look at her life and know she lived it to the fullest with His help. When we would talk she always wanted everyone to know about Jesus. She completed her mission and we are happy that we will see her again someday.
Our prayers are with her family at this time.
God Bless,
Cheryl and Dave Holmes
Denny and Nan,
It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Liz, I guess that happens when I’m three years younger and have gone on in my life. Jule’s was always like a big sister to me and with Jule’s you got Liz. I got to know her more off the floor and field then on like others, but I she was always laughing and had that big smile on her face. Each time we heard from Julie, we always were able to keep track of Liz. She has done so many things in life and had left footprints on teh hearts, souls, and determination of every person she’s ever met. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten… there is no way you can ever forget a smile like that. I say a prayer each night for her and know that she is up there runnin’ around like always. :
Score another one for us Liz,
Jen Frank
Denny, Nan and Family,
We are all saddened with the lost of Liz. She was such a great young lady and has provided many memories over the years, especially the third place finish at the State BB Tourney, when inspiring Alli at the free throw line as the picture has shown. Here spirit and determination was infectious. Sorry we won’t be able to attend, but will be there in spirit.
We are so sorry for your loss. What an impressive Lady she was…all of the academic and athletic achievements, but more importantly – so many friends; you have to be so proud of what you as parents, and she as an all-American person accomplished in her life. We can look at her picture in the paper and on TV, and see both of you so clearly.
We are already committed with reservations out of town this weekend and will not be able to attend her celebration. We have been communicating with you in spirit, and keeping up with you through Mick Hemphill; based on our talks with Mick, we ara sending her favorite flowers and our thoughts and prayers for you and your Sons. We are all sharing this difficult time with you and we’ll be there in spirit Saturday.
Nan, Denny, Terry, Jon and the extended family:
You all know how much Liz, and your whole family, meant to me . You guys were like my second family, at some times more than others. I am so sorry for your loss. Know that I am praying for our healing and I know that Liz is watching over us.
Denny and Nan,
Although our lives spun in many directions Liz always remained one of my truest most dearest friends. Poor Liz always had to hear about my pain and suffering because for so long she was the only one I ran to when life presented these challenges.I ran to Liz, even though others were close by, because I knew I could trust Liz with my heart. She just got me, she understood me, and she in so many ways was like a sister I never had. She was more loyal to me than anyone I’ve ever known. I wanted you two to know just how much I love my little “homecoming princess”
She is forever in my heart, and so are both of you.
Denny, Nanette, Terry and Jon,
Dan & I want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we are so sorry.
God is with you!
I was so glad Liz moved to Seattle, as it would be a place for her to have many great adventures, and Seattle would be a better place for her being there. Most of all I wanted to spend time with her, as knew she was an amazing, deep, wise and very beautiful young woman. All of these things happened, but in a much shorter time than anyone could know. Liz inspired me to embrace life and live it to the fullest, and I will thank her for that each day. I am so sorry she wasn’t with you and all of those who so love her, for much longer. And I thank you for the lovely and precious daughter you raised so well. She looked like you and like herself, and she loved you all so much.
To the entire Duncan family, I send my sincerest condolences. I did not know Liz as an adult. However, it is apparent she was an absolutely precious young lady.
My brother, Tony played baseball with Jon and I got to know Liz from the games. She was a beautiful child and had a great disposition. I will always remember her infectious smile and gorgeous, long hair.
There are little words of comfort I can offer you. On behalf of the entire Rodriquez family, we offer you our warmest thoughts and loving prayers.
Duncan family –
I had the opportunity to see Liz’s smile during our years at Richland High School. She was a year younger than me, but her athleticism and personality shined.
I had the pleasure of reconnecting with her through a mutual friend, Jessica Kious Fry. Liz and I talked at length about a year ago about what she’d been up to, what she was doing next, etc. She was someone who you simply made you feel good. She always expressed interest in my stories/life and she never stopped smiling. I wish I could have gotten to know her better.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Andrea
I’m so sorry. She was such a beautiful girl. From my family to yours, if you need anything, just ask.
Liz,
You are my bright shinning star. I loved your smiles and your laughter. You always made me feel loved. I am going to miss you so much. I know you are dancing with the Lord and celebrating life. I will always remember you and you will always be in my heart. You are so beautiful in every way. You will be miss, but I know that you are looking down from above and giving me strength to move forward. You are truly an Angel!
Love Jules

I am so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Mr. and Mrs. Duncan,
I was very sad when I heard the news of Liz. I knew Liz all through high school as a fellow ’98 graduate. Even though Liz was popular because of athletics, she never was one to show it. As a person that needed extra help because of my partial handicap, Liz always helped me in anyway possible. I am happy that she is now with her heavenly father and I continue to pray for you and your family.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to your family. We were devastated to hear of your great loss. Like so many others, we were drawn to Liz by her charm, courage, and warmth. She was such a vibrant, talented, caring and spiritual person who will be missed by all. May the love of family and friends comfort and strengthen you in the difficult days ahead. Our hearts, prayers, and thoughts are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Gene and Kathy Schroeder
Praying that God will comfort your heart uplift your spirit & carry you through this time of sadness to a place of peace. I know Marida & liz had fun times together playing basketball & running track, she will be miss in our hearts god bless you & your family. Marida & Mom
Our daughter Karly only met Liz a few short months ago, but their friendship instantly became a very strong one. Karly told us what a wonderful young woman Liz was, and how much her friendship meant to her. They shared a strong faith in God and the desire to share that with others, a passion for running and healthy living, and trying to be the best young women that they could be. I regret that we had not yet had a chance to know Liz. Our hearts ache for your family at the tragic loss of your precious daughter. Please know that we are praying for you constantly, and sending warm, loving thoughts your way.
Dear Nan, Denny and family, David and I are in such shock and sadness over Liz’s passing and pray for you each and every day. We feel so thankful that we were blessed to know your beautiful, positive and wonderful daughter!! She was a great friend to our daughter, Jen, and always made our WSU soccer experiences fun and entertaining …:- When I lost my father, a friend sent me the following and I would like to share it with you…”And when geat souls die, After a period peace blooms. Slowly and always Irregularly. Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric vibration. Our senses, restored never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be Better. For they existed. Maya Angelou
God Bless you all!

Duncan family,
I knew Liz from our work at Brooks Sports. I had the privilege of sitting next to her for the short time she was with us. She was a bright, funny and energetic little spitfire that really inspired many of us at Brooks. She had a sweet way of cheering you up if you were having bad day and I will miss that. I am so sorry for your loss.
With Love and deepest sympathies,
Danielle
Nanette and Denny, my thoughts and prayers are with you and the family every moment. I am so sorry for your loss. Liz was my very best friend when we were little and I don’t have many childhood memories that do not include her and your family. Even though we grew apart over the years, she will always have a special place in my heart. I will never forget the times we shared together.
Dearest Liz, it was an honor to know you and we will miss you terribly. Run long…
Nan and Denny,
Words can’t express how very sorry I am for your loss. Liz was undoubtedly a very special and caring person. We will all miss her dearly. During our years in Pullman, she and I became part of a mutual soccer family, one in which you are a part. Thank you for giving us the special gift of Liz. Each and every life she touched is dearer for it.
You’re in my thoughts and prayers. I’m sure Liz is having a grand ol’ time dancing and running to a little Dave Matthews Band in heaven.
Love,
Jen
Dear Denny and Nan,
I want to thank your for raising, shaping and sharing such a remarkable daughther with me. I was so fortunate to be a roomate, a teammate, and a Coug with Liz. Her laughter, spirit, and friendship shaped not just my college years but my life. I have been blessed by Liz and by knowing the two of you. My deepest sympathies. GO COUGS!
Duncan Family,
I did not have the pleasure to know Liz, but I still wanted to send my condolences. As a fellow soccer player and marathon runner, one of which was Chicago, I just feel such a loss for our entire community, especially those closest to her. We will all run with heavy hearts for Liz.
My children knew Liz while she worked at AIA in Xenia. We are grateful for her smile and the “spring” she brought to others. We write this on the eve of her funeral in Scotland where we live now. God Bless-The White Family John, Cindy, Jonathan, Estie and Hannah
Nanette, Denny, Terry & Jon,
Words cannot express how deeply sorry I am for you in the loss of your beautiful daughter. You are in my thoughts and prayers that God will grant you peace and ease your pain.
I will always remember the time we were all in Chelan on a President’s Day weekend when Liz and Larry were about nine or 10 years old. At that age, he thought girls were totally annoying, and Liz delighted in chasing him all over the place to annoy him as much as possible I was really getting a kick out of this. It didn’t take long for her infectious laughter and sparkling personality to turn him around and make him look at her as an enjoyable companion rather than an annoying “girl.” I will always cherish this memory.
God bless you.
– Esther
Liz was a leader full of strength and love. I am thankful for knowing her. I send my prayers and thoughts to her family and friends.
Denny, Nanette & Family,
No words can express our sorrow for the loss of Liz. There are so many memories of Liz and her friends at Badger Mt. Kelly, Kyle, Josh, Jeff, Collin, Karen, Brooke, and many others.
The loss of a person is felt deeply by many, especially if that person had a giving and touching life. We wish to express to you, our deepest sympathies. We will always remember the life of a very special person, Liz Duncan.
Liz will live forever in our hearts.
Paul & Terry
Mr. and Mrs. Duncan and family,
I was so saddened to hear of Liz’s passing. I attended RHS with Liz and knew her casually through friends and athletics. She was such a shinning light and I know many people looked up to her.
Recently my fiancé, Andrew Gottschalk also a fellow 98 RHS graduate, passed away. We have loss too many young Bombers this year. I am so sorry for your loss.
Alyssa
Dear Nan and Family,
Everyone who knew Liz was touched by her. Here is a small sampling of how she has made the world a better place for my family.
1982/83
I babysat Liz when she was a toddler. I loved getting calls from Nan to watch her because she was such a happy and adorable child; I dont remember her crying once
every babysitters dream.
1993
Tom coached her in cross-country at Carmichael. She won every race her 8th grade year, except one. The last race she was ill with a fever, and insisted on competing. Many middle school athletes feel a hangnail is ample reason not to run! She ran anyway and came in second
every coachs dream.
I taught Liz that same year in Spanish and Language Arts. She could always be counted on to give academics her best effort, and she was a joy to have in class
every teachers dream.
During her Bomber years, she wrote a piece in her English class about my Dad whom she passed jogging while on her morning commute to school. She beautifully expressed how my Dads friendly waves and attitude helped her with her own outlook. Nan gave me a copy of her paper and my Dad has kept it on his office wall ever since. When she was home visiting from college, they crossed paths while running one day, and Liz gave him a big hug
every strangers dream.
To you whom knew her best
we ask God to bless you and keep Liz forever in your hearts
every parents, brothers and friends dream. May her devotion and enthusiasm for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, continue to touch lives and lead others to personally know Him.
Respectfully,
Tom and Amanda LaRiviere and
Bill Hitt
P.S. Go Cougs!
We are so sorry to hear about Liz. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. We know she’ll get her wings up in heaven.
With Great Sympathy,
Bryan & Christine

She was energetic and caring person who will be missed by everyone she knew and all she touched. My heart goes out to her family for the tremendous loss and we will all see her one day again. GO COUGS!
Denny and Nan
I can’t tell you how sorry I am. Liz was the best role model for other students at Richland High. My own daughters Whitney and Morgan always looked up to Liz. She has touched so many people and will be missed by all who knew her. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
Duncan Family,
We would like to offer our prayers and join in your pain over your daughters death. Though we only met her briefly when she served at Brooke and Jared’s wedding it was clear to us what Liz stood for. We look forward to meeting her again in heaven.
Denny and Family: Words can’t express the sorrow I feel for you and your family at the tragic loss of your Daughter. May God help heal your hearts and easy your pain. You have my and my families deepest sympathies.
I will remember Liz always. One of the most amazing and talented Soccer players I ever got the honors of playing with. She was a great friend, beautiful soul, and she will forever be in my heart. I will miss her. I send deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
Nan, Denny and the boys
There is no greater sorrow than the loss of a child. God has a plan for all of us but it’s hard to comprehend why Liz would be called home at such a tender age. Take solice in the time you had with her, and joy and confort in her precious memories. Liz touched so many lives and will be with us in heart and mind always.
We love you all and as parents share your pain.
God Bless
Dan and Ginny
Dear Duncan family,
My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Liz was a great person and so fun to be around. I really enjoyed playing soccer with her and hanging out. There are no words to express the deep pain you must be feeling but know this: Liz lives on! No one truly dies and eventually we will all be together again: P.S. Denny and Nan-I miss you guys! You were always so wonderful to me during my Wazzu years. My thoughts are with you. Love, Meagin aka Mad Dog;
My friend, my forever friend, that’s what Liz was. Always by my side whenever I needed her. There to listen, laugh or cry with me, she never judged just loved me for me.I feel very fortunate to have had such an amazing women to call my best friend for the last 17 years. She will always be in my heart. All the memories and times that I cherish so dearly will never be forgotten. I LOVE YOU Duncan family!
I remember as a seventh grader admiring Liz from a distance because she was such a great athlete and everyone at school knew who she was. I don’t think I ever got over my awe, even when I got to scrimmage against her everyday in high school Liz was a senior and I was a junior on the JV girls basketball team, under Ed Larrabe. I’ve never known a tougher competitor. She was one of the shortest players on the court, but I absolutely dreaded going up against her because she could drive past you in a blink or knock you off your feet if you bumped into her. She always set a high level of intensity for all of us to follow.
I’m proud to say I knew Liz Duncan and pray God’s love will sustain her family in this time of parting. I rejoice in the day when they will meet again and live in love through God’s mercy. My heart goes out to you all.
-Wendi Brown Pilling
Our niece Sadie Litzenberger and Liz played sports together and ran together. I remember Liz’s determination in whatever she tackled and a personality to go with it!!Our Prayers and thoughts are with you.Regards…
Dear Duncan Family,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Elizabeth’s passing. I still thought of her as that tiny little girl in her t-ball uniform ready to take on anyone that got in her way. She had that way about her even at such a young age. From reading her memorial she grew into a beautiful woman both inside and out.
You all have my deepest sympathy.
Heather Perfect Manthey
I was out of town on business when I received the call about Liz’s fatal accident and have just returned. As all were, I was stunned and tremendously saddened. Liz was a special young woman who gave much to Cougar soccer and our department. She will be greatly missed. Marcia L. Saneholtz, Sr. Associate Director of Athletics
We didn’t know each other that long Liz but you grabbed a hold of my heart with both hands. The light you gave off for the Lord was blinding! Although I miss you deeply I REJOICE knowing you are with Jesus!! I can not wait to run with you someday. Until then my friend…
I was saddened to hear of Liz’s sudden passing. I attended Carmichael and RHS with Liz class of ’98 and remember Liz’s friendly smile and incredible athletic ability. My prayers are with you at this difficult time.
To Nanette & Jonathan,
I am so sadded by this sensless tradegy! I will always remember Elizabeth, as we sat outside your house in the summer; Jon, you were 11 and Elizabeth was 4.
I have fond memories of your family. Know that I have been holding a place in my heart for you and your family.

Dear Duncan family,
My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Liz was a great person and so fun to be around. I really enjoyed playing soccer with her and hanging out. There are no words to express the deep pain you must be feeling but know this: Liz lives on! No one truly dies and eventually we will all be together again: P.S. Denny and Nan-I miss you guys! You were always so wonderful to me during my Wazzu years. My thoughts are with you. Love, Meagin aka Mad Dog;

I was saddened to hear of Liz’s sudden passing. I attended Carmichael and RHS with Liz class of ’98 and remember Liz’s friendly smile and incredible athletic ability. My prayers are with you at this difficult time.

My condolences go out to the family of Liz. I vaguely knew of Liz, only knew of her through the RHS newspaper, “Sandstorm”, Sports highlights from the 10 o’clock news, and watched her when I attended sporting events. What I did know of her, she was very talented and very friendly, as a RHS Alumni, Liz, I pray you are at peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you Duncan family.

Liz will always be an inspiration to those who may be lost in life, and find their way to God. Her smiling face and attitude towards life will forever remain…in God’s love.
To Denny and his Family,
I’m very sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter Elizabeth. I never had the honor of meeting her but from what my sister Carolyn Moore has told me Liz was a great kid! Please accept my condolences because the reality is, getting on with life means continuing to cherish Elizabeth. Take Care
Liz and I lost touch some time ago but our lives intertwined both on and off the soccer field growing up. She was an amazing person then and it sounds like she only continued to spread her sunshine. Know that she will always live on in the thoughts of all that knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Our hearts go out to you and your family at this sad time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Remember all the good times.
God desired a Special Angel in heaven when he called for Liz.
My prayers will be with her family during this sad time.

Duncan family,
Liz was a mentor to our daughter Calli at RHS and at WSU in many ways, but most importantly in her love for Christ. She was blessed by Liz’s presence on the soccer field and many times at WSU through her Christian ministery.
God must have a special plan for your precious daughter. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
Lori, Dennis, Ryan & Calli McCord
Thinking of you, Denny & Nanette, and your family and your beautiful daughter, Liz.
We were so saddened to read about the passing of your wonderful daughter. What a delight she must have been to all who knew her. Our heart goes out to your family.
Mr. & Mrs. Duncan & Family,
I cannot express enough sympathy for your loss. I was fortunate enough to get to know Liz when she was a Senior and I was a Freshman on the Richland Girl’s Soccer team. The usual intimidation factor flew out the window with Liz due to her caring personality and ability to find laughter even in the most competitive environment. Liz was such an inspiration to me not only as my mentor on the soccer field at Richland High, but also on campus at WSU through her Christian faith. I will sadly miss, but never forget her contagiously bright smile, her ability to express God’s message through her passion for life, and her vibrant beauty inside and out. God has a grander plan for such a special angel. Go Cougs!
I can never express how badly I feel. Please take solice in knowing a lot of people are there for you. Ironically I’m in Chicago, where Liz was planning to run the marathon.
My sincerest apologies to all of the loved ones for an incredible person. The world will be a little less bright without her.
Nan, Denny and family,
Nothing that I say will make your pain less. I do want you to know Liz was a beautiful person on the inside and out. I thank god for all of the memories we had growing up together. She was a constant source of comfort and strength for me. I loved to be in her presence because of the energy she projected. She was a wonderful, wonderful person and will be in my heart forever.
Thank you Lizard for sharing your wonderful nature with the world and changing people in the process. You will never be forgotten.
I am so sorry for your loss. Although I did not know Liz as an adult, she seemed like an amazing woman who will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Denny, I’m so sorry to hear about your daughter’s tragic death. I remember reading about her in high school. She was quite an athlete, and it came from good genes.
Thinking of you,
Ron Feaster
