Virginia G. Smith

Virginia Smith, 93, of Richland, died April 23, 2007 at Alterra in Richland. She moved here in 1944 from Denver, Colorado and worked at the Hanford Project by E.I. du Pont, Inc. and retired from Douglas United Nuclear in 1976. She served as council secretary at her church, Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a past matron and secretary of the Richland Chapter No. 239, Order of Eastern Star as well as past president and secretary of the Richland Nile Club No. 17.

She was married to James Douglas Smith, who preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Laurence Smith and Timothy Smith and his wife Pam; three grandchildren Katina and husband James Gibbons, Jimmy Smith and Shelley Smith. She also has three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Richland Lutheran Church at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 29, 2007.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Compassion International, PO Box 7000, Colorado Springs, CO 80933; or to St. Labre School for Indian Children, Tongue River Road, Ashland, MT 99004.
