08/30/1931 — 11/27/2007
From Richland, WA, US | Born in Toppenish, Washington
Kenneth Dean Hinkle
Kenneth Dean Hinkle of Richland passed away peacefully on November 27, 2007 at home, after a year-long battle with complications from a stroke and COPD. Ken was born on August 30, 1931 in Toppenish, WA. He moved to Richland in 1945 with his parents, Ira S. Sr. and Vera C. Hinkle, and graduated from Richland High School in 1949.
Ken began working at Hanford for General Electric in 1950 and retired from Battelle Northwest in 1994 as a Senior Technical Specialist. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. Always thrifty, he enjoyed picking up bargains at yard sales and gleaning fruit from nearby orchards, usually giving away his finds. He enjoyed being around his family and friends, and was always ready to help those in need. Before his illness, Ken loved to cook, and his family will miss the great foods he prepared for them.
Ken is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue R. Hinkle, children Steve Karen Hinkle of Valencia, CA, Susan Paul Parsons of Overland Park, KS, and Tom Elaine Hinkle of Richland, Mother-In-Law Jaunita Ryel of Richland, sister Nadine Quackenbush of Kennewick, and brothers Ira Hinkle Jr. and Gary Hinkle, both of Richland, two grandsons, six granddaughters, and two great-grandsons, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other special friends, both young and once-young.
Ken was blessed with a wonderful support group of family and friends and was able to meet with many of them near the end of his life. He is already missed, but is now in a much better place, without the shackles placed on him this past year. A viewing will be available on Saturday, December 1 between 5:00PM-8:00PM at Einans Funeral Home, 915 By-Pass Highway in Richland. A memorial service celebrating Kens life will be held at West Side United Protestant Church North in Richland on Sunday, December 2 at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Hospice at the Chaplaincy, 2108 W. Entiat, in Kennewick, WA 99336.
As Gary Hinkle’s brother-in-law I and my wife had the opportunity to meet Ken and his wife several timesover the years. He was a real gentleman. Our sympathies to the family.

dear sue, You are in my thoughts and prayers. my deepest sympathy to you and your family. corrine
Ken worked with me and I with him in our groups at Battelle for many years. He was a wonderful friend, worker, and colleague. The success of our projects was always helped by the steady contributions that Ken provided. I recall how he steered us through the new regulations about disposal of chemical wastes from our experiments. We all complained about the extra problems that it caused but Ken carried us through it with seamless efficiency. I still am grateful to Ken for that episode in our lives. Dependable as a worker, he was enjoyable to work with, and it was a privilege to have known him.
For you Sue and rest of Ken’s family, we are so very sorry for your loss. We have enjoyed our contacts with you and Ken through the years since Bomber ’51 graduation and at Richland Lutheran Church.
We feel that our mutual friend Nancy Cutshall will have much sorrow for you guys when hearing of Ken’s passing. She has been visiting in Kenya since early Sept and will be coming home this coming 12/8 weekend. We know she&Brad were very close to you two.
Our prayers for God’s peace and comforting during this time difficult time.

Dearest Sue and Tom,
I wish you peace and comfort in knowing that I share your grief and at least part of your good memories of Kenny. It was his time, and we are all very lucky to have had him here in this life. Remember him laughing and cooking, that’s how I’ll always remember him. Love and Hugs, Dawn
Sue I am so sorry for your loss. Please call me if there is any way I can help you. Now or later.
The funeral was so nice. Good job. The veggies were perfect.
Bye for now, Kenny. You are at peace and happily fixing your famous Swedish pancakes for Grandpa Baker I bet!
