Carol B. Vance
Our Mom died May 30th after a brave and unyielding battle with brain cancer. The professionals suggested she may have two months to live and she lived 17 months.
Mom was born in Detroit and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. She met her husband, Bill Shaw, while working as an ambulance driver in London during the blitz of WWII. After the birth of daughter Bonnie and son Jim they settled in the Tri-Cities. Mom married Lloyd Vance deceased and continued to live in Kennewick. Their daughter Wendy was born in 1956.
Together they shared many interests, but primarily their love of family. After Lloyd's death in 1965 Mom worked particularly hard to provide the best she could. Mom worked as Dad's assistant in his dental office before working as a legal secretary for over 20 years, then as a volunteer for her church, over ten years as a volunteer for the Children's Orthopedic Guild and many other organizations, all who found her to be an absolute gem and a highly organized person to share interests. Carol was a woman ahead of her times, yet of her times; a person of beauty, inside and out, of insight and love. This love and joy was extended in so many ways to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom took tremendous joy spending time with and giving them her life lessons. The world is richer for the gifts of her life full of compassions and generosity.
Carol is survived by children Bonnie Bowerman, Jim Judy Vance, Wendy Richard Stevenson; grandchildren David, Elizabeth, Carol Jean, Spencer and Capriel; great-grandchildren Jack, Noah, Lucy, Chloe, Fred and her favorite furry friends Trooper and Phil.
Family thanks Naturopathic Home Care Emma, Charles, Bob, Josie and Stephanie during the last few months of Mom's life; Dr. Henry Kaplan, Swedish Cancer Care Institute, who offered continual and compassionate advice, day or night; Evergreen Home Health Care, Palliative and Hospice Care, whose unbelievably talented and caring staff is top of the line.
Memorial services 1:00 PM Friday, June 6, 2008 at Einan's Funeral Home, Richland, with burial to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Kennewick.
Remembrances may be made to Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, Seattle, WA.
