From Richland, QC, US | Born in Puxico, Missouri
Cecil C. Roberts
Cecil C. Roberts passed away peacefully in Richland on May 18, 2008, her family at her side. She was born in Puxico, MO, January 19, 1922, to Lottie and Cecil Clodfelter. Her father was killed in an explosion 3 months before she was born so she spent her early years on her grandmother's farm while her mother worked to support her and her sister Marie. At age 6 she moved to Paducah, KY to live with her mother and sister where she graduated from Tilghman High School and attended Paducah Junior College. They lived near the library where she was able to nurture her love of books.
While she was attending Murray State College she met her future husband, Roy, on a tennis court. They were married December 28, 1941, and she moved to Memphis, TN while he finished school. After graduation Roy's job with DuPont got them transferred to Richland with infant daughter Tobe in 1944. Jo Marie was born to them 4 years later.
Cecil's life was centered around the love that she had for her family. She was a most unselfish, giving and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She taught Sunday School, led Brownie and Girl Scout Troops and civic committees, and served in PTA. She was very talented and could create anything with needles, yarn, thread and fabric.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marie Wallace, husband Roy 1998, and infant son Mark 1954. Surviving are two daughters, Tobe Carl Taylor of Richland, Jo Marie Pat Ford of Edmonds; 5 grandchildren, Bryan Taylor, Amy Bob Cromwell, Michael Ford, Christopher Ford, and Rob April Ford; and 2 great-grandchildren, Matthew and Allison Cromwell. She is also survived by nieces Mary Anna Bryant and Cecelia Crossett, and nephews Lewis, Fred, Hilton, and Glenn Roberts.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 24th 10:00 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland. Special thanks to the caring staff of Kadlec Hospital and Alterra. Remembrances may be made to Friends of the Richland Library, PO Box 2240, Richland, WA 99352.
