Edward Marlow Mecham, 55, returned to his Heavenly Father after a courageous six-month battle with lung cancer on Saturday, July 12, 2008. He was born January 6, 1953, in Caldwell, Idaho, the son of Marlow and Guila Mecham of Eltopia, Washington. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Columbia Basin Ward.
Edward graduated from Connell High School in 1971 and attended Columbia Basin College where he graduated with an associate degree. He married Mona McVicker on October 18, 1975.
He worked for several chemical companies and for the last 22 years he worked as an Agriculture Field Supervisor for Lamb Weston in Connell. He looked forward to going to work each day and enjoyed working with the potato farmers in the Columbia basin. Edward loved to fish for salmon and halibut and went on many fishing trips including Alaska and Canada. He loved growing flowers, and his rose gardens are beautiful. He was a generous person and would help anyone.
He is survived by his wife, Mona and one daughter Kerri Ann Mitchell husband Chris, grandsons Cody and Jace, five brothers and one sister. Glen Carla of Halfway, Oregon; DeLoy Janet of Emmett, Idaho, Arvil Laun of Ellensburg, Washington, Elnora Thomas Howard of Preston, Idaho, Gary Peggy of Kennewick.
There will be a viewing Wednesday, July 16, from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Einan's Funeral Home. Einan's is located at 915 Bypass Highway, Richland, Washington. There will also be a viewing from 8:30 to 9:30am on Thursday, July 17. The funeral will be at 10:00am at Einan's Funeral Home.
Mona and Kerri express their gratitude to the medical staff for their excellent care and the members of the Columbia Basin Ward and scout troop, Con Agra and all of our many friends and family for their kindness and assistance.

I was soooooo surprised to see that Ed was home such a short time after the hospital. I enjoyed the opportunity to care for him while he was at Lourdes.
Ed was more than a brother in-law,he was my good friend,always there for me,he worked hard and enjoyed life to the fullest.Ill treasure all the times God gave us with him.Ed was one of a kind special guy ,I feel blessed to have him in my life,And he’ll remain in my heart always.

Through teaching, I was able to meet many fine young people of our area, and Ed was one of the best.
