Harley Luke Tegner

Harley Luke Tegner, age 94, of Richland died on October 15, 2009. Harley was born January 20, 1915 in Orella, Nebraska. He graduated from West Denver High School, Denver, Colorado in 1935, where he met his future wife, Velma Irene Burke. Harley learned to be an electrician at Opportunity Vocational School in Denver while Velma graduated from Barnes Business School. They married on New Year's Eve of 1937. Harley's first of many jobs was as a repairman for electrical appliances at Good Housekeeping Stores in Denver. Friends and family regarded Harley as a man who could fix anything.

After serving in the army during World War II, Harley, Velma, and their daughter Betty Jean moved to Richland where Velma's older sister and her family lived. In 1946 Harley began his long career at Hanford working for General Electric at N and K areas. He was also the City of Richland Timekeeper. Their second daughter, Jean Irene, was born in 1958. Harley retired from UNC in 1978. He and Velma spent their retirement having fun with relatives, especially taking many trips to see their grandsons in CA play baseball and go to the beach and Disneyland!!. After Velma passed away, he spent many fun vacations and lots of time with his second set of grandsons, Jake, Jared and Ty.

Harley was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Velma, in 1989. He is survived by two daughters, Betty Tegner and Jean Feaster Scott, six grandsons, Clint, Glen Harley, and Brett Fulton; and Jake, Jared Luke, and Ty Feaster, and seven great-grandchildren: Andrew, Rachel, and Mark Fulton; and Derek, Dylan, Troy, and Lauren Fulton. He also has 2 very kind and special friends of the family, Amy and Laura. We also wanted to thank some special folks for their kindness especially in Grandpa's later years, Kerry and Karyn, both of the Carols, and Jake and Jared's friends. We all have wonderful memories of the kind, patient, honest, generous, and fun Father and Grandpa he was to all of us.

  • Our sincere thoughts and sympathy go out the Harley’s family during the difficult and sad time. I have very fond memories of family get-to-gathers at Uncle Harley and Auntie Velma home. Their home was always a place of happiness and love. We will miss Harley.
