Patricia Mae Porter
Patricia M. Porter, age 84, died on April 2, 2010 in Richland, WA. She was born on March 31, 1926 in Twin Falls, ID to Dan and Myrtle Mulvihill. She grew up moving between Idaho and Washington and then moved to San Diego, California where she met her husband, Alva Dean Porter and were married on January 12, 1946. They settled in St. Louis, MO until 1950, then moved to Portland, OR and soon after came to Richland, WA where they lived until 1970 when they moved to Anchorage, AK. Following their retirement in 1987, Pat and Dean relocated to Vancouver, WA and lived there until Dean's death, at which time Pat returned to Richland, WA in 1997 where she resided until her death.
Pat's life was directed by her faith in God, where she was committed to raising her four children with a strong sense of service to help others. This was reflected in the fact that all four of her children choose careers where they are in service to others. When she lived in Anchorage she found great joy in working in a Bible book store, teaching Sunday School and English as a Second Language ESL. When she returned to Richland she was reunited with many of her friends and once again became an active member of Richland Baptist Church, continued teaching ESL and worked as a volunteer at Kadlec Memorial Hospital until she developed Alzheimer's disease.
During the past four years Pat lived at Quail Hollow Assisted Living. She died peacefully on Good Friday; her son, Alan, died last year on Good Friday, also. She is survived by her children Susan Porter Wambach of Centerville, OH, Lori Prussing of Richland, WA and Kevin Porter of Friday Harbor, WA, and their significant others; ten grandchildren: Tracy Miner, Andrea Wambach, Alaina Brady, Trent Prussing, and Joshua, Matthew, Whitney, Daniel, Rachel, and Nathaniel Porter, one great granddaughter, Nora Minor, and siblings, Lucy Anderson, Ruth Regan, Dan Mulvihill, and Jim Mulvhill, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mom and dad, her husband, Dean Porter, son, Alan Porter, sisters, Betty Jamieson, Bessie and Esther Mulvihill.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at 10 am at Richland Baptist Church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donation be made to the following organization s: Alzheimer's Association http://www.alz.org/join the cause tributes.asp.
