Barbara R. Camp King

Barbara Rae King, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 30, 2010 at the age of 87. She passed away at Kadlec Hospital with her family by her side.

Barbara was born July 20, 1923 to William E. Camp and Fern Hanchett Camp in Annabella, Utah; she was one of eight children. She worked at Douglass Aircraft in Long Beach, California, riveting tail sections, where she was introduced to her future husband Wayne S. King, by a co-worker, Wayne's sister. They were married in Sacramento, California in May of 1943.

Barbara then proceeded to follow him across the United States, where he was stationed in Louisiana, until he was deployed overseas with the US Army Air Force. Their first child, Robert was born while Wayne was stationed in Europe. Upon exiting the military, the couple moved to Richland, Washington where Wayne worked as a lineman at the Hanford Site. Their daughters Patricia and Nita were both born in Richland.

She thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors; gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping with Wayne and her family. She loved dolls, quilting, church work, visiting teaching, Relief Society and taught Primary for 20 years. She was a member of the choir and Singing Mothers for many years. Barbara loved her church very much; she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Barbara is survived by her son Robert King of Rathdrum, Idaho; daughter Patti Douglass and husband Paul, of Benton City; daughter Nita Merk and husband Larry, of Kennewick; grandchildren Laura Leland, daughter Jordan, and husband Jim of Fremont, NE, Shannon King and son, Parker, of Issaquah, WA; Crystal King of Spokane, WA; Brian Douglass, wife Tammy, and children Emma and Benjamin of Hanford, CA; Amy Berg and husband, Patrick of Portland, OR; Andrea Vickers, husband Brian, and sons Derek, Tyler, Levi, and Shea of Richland, WA; Michael Merk, fiancé Jillian, and son Kaden Rothrock of Richland, WA, brother Mack Camp and wife Darlene, of Richfield, UT; sister Phyllis Stapleton of Bakersfield, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Wayne, her parents, brothers Cray and Bud, sisters Bliss, Lyle, and Vaun; and daughter-in-law Darlene King.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS church at 1720 Thayer Dr. in Richland. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the viewing on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Einan's Funeral Home, Richland.
