Susan Marie Felch

Our beloved mother, sister and friend, Susan Marie Felch, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, in West Richland, Washington of an apparent heart attack.

Sue was born September 20, 1952 in Richland, the first daughter and second child of George T Furner and Beth Millar Furner. From her youth, Susan was drawn to music. She learned the piano early and had a lovely singing voice. She was an attractive young woman and turned heads in Mexico during a school-sponsored singing tour.

Susan was briefly married in the late seventies and conceived her son, Derek, at that time. With the assistance of her mother and father, Sue raised Derek to adulthood. She dearly loved her son and expressed her affection for him at every opportunity.

We will always remember Susan as a kind and unassuming person, someone who was always approachable and friendly, a person of understated strength. She never had much money but she had a knack for creating friendships.

Sue has faced so many challenges and hardships in her life, including cancer in her later years. Through it all, she has kept a positive attitude which is extraordinary if not infectious.

For most of Susan's career, she worked as an executive secretary at Hanford. We sincerely appreciate the many fine people she befriended there. When Susan could no longer perform her job, many of those friends came to her home and offered selfless acts of kindness. These kind folks were there when she needed them. Thank you so much!

In like manner, Susan received other loving gestures from friendships she enjoyed after returning to the faith of her youth, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We have heard of their many kindnesses and of their gestures of faith. These many selfless individuals loved her back into full fellowship and helped her to enter worthily into the temple before her death. Thank you so much!

Susan is survived by her son and two brothers, a sister and a brother-in-law: Derek Stephanie Felch of West Richland, Michael Diane Furner of Richland, LuAnn Furner of West Jordan UT, and by her brother Kelly Paula Furner of Bonney Lake WA, and Rick Tamara, deceased Tuttle of Orem UT. She was preceded in death by her mother, Beth, father, George, sister, Tamara, and brother, Jon.

Her funeral will be held May 18, 2012 in the Paradise LDS Chapel, at 4500 Paradise Road, West Richland. There will be a closed casket viewing beginning at 10:00a.m. and the funeral will begin at 11:00a.m. Interment, Shelley City Cemetery, Shelley, ID, the afternoon of May 19th.

  • What a wonderful blessing that Susan could go to the temple before she passed. I had a recent discussion with her about her plans to go and it is so wonderful that she was able to do so. I wish I would have known her better as cousins are supposed to. I do love and appreciate her sister, LuAnn who lives in Utah, who I know will miss Susan terribly, but we will help her however possible.

    With love,

  • My Dearest Derek,

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother and a dear friend. She was one of the kindness, sweetest and loving people I was fortunate to know. I have many memories of you, your mother and myself living in the duplex. My heart is so sad for you. You were her world. There was nothing she would not do for you. May God bless you and help you through this difficult time. I know you have many dear memories of times you spent with your mother. May this help you overcome the sadness you are feeling now. You and your mother were such an important part of Grandma Porter’s life. You brought her so much happeness. I love you.

    Love, Sharon

  • Sue, You are and always will be a dear and loved friend. Your delightful, positive presence in my life will be very much missed, but I will often remember the many enjoyable times and great meals we shared over the years. The love and friendship you shared with so many will be renewed through the precious memories you leave us each with. I pray for your family and friends, Sue, that God will bring comfort and peace of heart to each who knew and loved you.
