Donald “Rocky” Semmern

Donald " Rocky" W. Semmern, Jr.

Rocky passed away peacefully at Kadlec Medical Center on March 1, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones. Rocky was born April 25, 1953 in Richland, WA to Donald & Marie Semmern. He went to school in Richland all of his life and graduated from Columbia Richland High School in 1972. He joined the US Army in 1972 and was honorably discharged in May 1978. After returning from the Army he worked as a carpenter out in the area, retiring after 28 years. Rocky's greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his loving daughter Amy, her husband, and his amazing grandkids.

Rocky was most proud of the woman his daughter became and the unconditional love she showed him without limitations or conditions. His faith was everlasting and he was a devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his father, Donald Semmern, Sr.; sister, Cindy Jim Vanwyck; daughter, Amy Neil Schroeder; grandsons, Laiten, Landen and Luke; nieces, Julee Jayson Merrill and Crissa Flink. He is preceded in death by his caring mother, Marie; best friend and brother, Steve; and beautiful niece, Sammi.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 9th at 11am at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland. Funeral Services immediately following at 12pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 520 Thayer Dr., Richland. Reception to follow at the Sports Page in Kennewick.

The family would like to thank James, Carolyn and the staff in the ICU at Kadlec and Dr. Zander for his exceptional care.

  • From the Hughes family to the Semmern Family we send our condolences. Just to many classmates leaving us. I Graduated High School with Don Rocky and talked to him a few times at Ariva when he worked there. Rocky was the class clown always having fun and giving everybody a bad time. Great guy he will be missed. I was very surprised to find out about his passing.
