Hubert August Plagge

Hubert passed away peacefully on August 31, 2013. He was born October 31, 1933 in Emsdetten, Germany. He lived in Richland for 40 years with his wife Hilda and four children.

Hubert came to America when he was 19 years old as a journeyman electrician. He enjoyed gardening especially caring for his many roses, beekeeping, refereeing and watching his children and grandchildren play soccer, going camping at Tucannon and swimming at the neighborhood pool.

Hubert loved his family. He was a patient father, witty with his comments and facial expressions. He traveled often to Germany and Alaska to visit his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was a devoted member of Christ the King Church in Richland, and especially enjoyed cooking sausages at the annual Sausage Fest. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

With much love, Hilda and family would like to say thank you to Vince and Wanda Cortese for the many times they came to visit Hubert.

  • To the Plagge Family,

Our deepest condolences to the entire family. Some of my earliest and fondest memories are of Mr. Plagge walking the sidelines of every soccer game no matter how early in the morning or how far from home. He is, was, and will continue to be a great role model.

He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all.

  • Dear Hilde and Family,

We are all saddened to hear that Hubert passed away. In spite of the distance between the US and Germany we always kept a very good and close relationship to Hubert. We have lost a very good uncle and friend.

Fortunately we could spent a few days together with him during his trip to Emsdetten last year. We enjoyed a wonderful time with the Heinemann, Chapman and Plagge families during that time. We will never forget Hubert.

We express our sincere condolences and sympathy to all of you.
