Patrick Edward Stanley

Patrick Edward Stanley passed away on October 31, 2013 after battling metastatic prostate cancer for 4 1/2 years.

He was born on March 9, 1949 the oldest of three children to Avis and Raymond Gallagher in Fort Lewis, Washington. They later moved to Billings, Montana. In 1957 Avis remarried Richard Stanley and they had 2 more children. Richard worked for the railroad so the family moved around a lot. Pat especially enjoyed living and growing up in Judith Gap, Montana.

Pat served in the Navy from 1969 to 1973 then went on to MSU in Bozeman, Montana and graduated in 1976 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at MSU he met the love of his life Karen Banka. They were married June 25, 1977 and moved to Butte where Pat worked for Stauffer Chemical and Karen stayed home with their two children Ryan and Erin.

In 1986 Pat took a job out at Hanford in Richland, Washington where he continued to work in engineering at various locations until October of 2012 when his illness made it impossible to continue.

Throughout the years Pat always enjoyed camping, fishing and geocaching with the family or riding the trails on his motorcycle with friends.

Pat was preceded in death by his father, mother and half-brother James. He is survived by his wife Karen of 36 years, son Ryan Amber Stanley of Aurora, CO, and daughter Erin Jeff Delaune of Jefferson, LA. He is also survived by his stepfather Richland, brother Dennis, sister Kathy, half-sister Jill and father and mother-in-law Tom and Joyce Banka of Great Falls, MT. He also leaves behind his beloved bulldogs Rudy and Nash.

We would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the Tri-Cities Cancer Center and Columbia Basin Hematology and Oncology in Kennewick for helping Pat throughout his illness. A special thank you to Karen DuBois, the Nurse Navigator and Chaplain Rainy Larson at TCCC for all their help and comfort. We would also like to thank the Hospice at The Chaplaincy for all their caring and comfort they gave to Pat and his family. In lieu of flowers we would ask that you make donations to the Cancer Center or to the Hospice Center.

  • I was sorry to hear of Pat’s illness and passing. I feel so fortunate to have known him during his time at Hanford and most recently at 100K Area. He made it a better place to work through his kind and gentle nature, positive outlook, and genuine concern for his coworkers. He was a dedicated Engineer and we benefited from his contributions to the work but more importantly from his friendship. So many at 100K Area who knew Pat and did not have the inclination to sign the guest book are thinking of him and you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • Pat,

Your adventurous and kind hearted nature was recognized by your co-workers. Many of us were lucky to call you a friend, enjoyed hearing your jokes, and your stories of your family trips and off-road motorcycling. We only got a little time to spend with you, but you made the very best of it. For many coworkers that are not able to fully express in words, i will say this for us all; you have inspired us to live and work like you with high ethical standards, honor, and compassion. Our warmest prayers and condolences to your family and loved ones.

  • Speaking for all of us in the maintenance department at 100K that had the honor of working with Pat. He was one of the best in the engineering group. I always enjoyed working with Pat and always had great conversation. Working out in my yard I would see Pat from time to time walking his two bulldogs of who he was very fond of. He was just one of those people who would always bring a smile to your face when you saw him comin’. I will miss Pat as I am sure many others who had the privilege of knowing him will also. My prayers and condolences go out to all of his family. God Bless.

  • I had the pleasure of working with Pat for several years at K Basins. He was truly one of the nicest people I have met here at Hanford. Since I was involved in cross country Motorcycle racing and also work for an animal rescue group, Pat and I had many fun conversations about racing and our dear family pets. He always greeted me with a smile. Pat sincerely cared about his work and all of his coworkers. He was always professional and very helpful, but he also added a personal touch that made every encounter with him pleasant and memorable. He was one of the best. I am so happy to have known him. He will be missed.

  • I was so sad to hear of the passing of Pat. I met Pat years ago as a neighbor and working at Hanford. He was a great guy who was always friendly and easy to work with. We also spent alot of time riding and driving the Ben Franklin Van back and forth to work. We all will miss him. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

  • I am sorry and sad to hear of Pat’s passing. I will always remember him as a great guy and friend.

Pat and I were good friends in the Navy at North Island in San Diego. I am so glad we were able to reconnect last year and be able to rehash those days chatting and swapping photos. We tried to cover so much. I remember most our flights in the S2 “Stoof”; time on board the “Tico”; camping in the desert; and once going home with him to Shelby, MT where I experienced a first and never since – a snowstorm in May. This past year was too short and I will miss our chats, but not the memories.

His wife and family are in my prayers.

  • Pat was easy to like. His sense of humor was the first thing I liked about him when I just began to get to know him. He always made me laugh! And he was a true friend… someone I could count on. We had many great adventures together, and there’s a big hole in my life now that he’s gone. Farewell dear friend.
